| Mini Epee Hit recorder http://www.leonpaul.com/acatalog/Tra...d_Devices.html
"scroll down, its at bottom third of page"
Does any1 have experience with these?
Do they work well for bouting when you dont have access to scoring equipment?
Could you easily modify one to work with foil, or do combo foil/epee ones exist? |

| Not with the LP one specifically, but Favero makes a similar 3 noise beep box that can be switched from foil/epee with a switch. http://tinyurl.com/3cvfkh
The Favero beepers are good for letting you know when your point is actually on or flat. As for bouting (at least for foil), they have some limitations:
1) No lockout timings, since your box and your partner's box aren't linked to each other.
2) The boxes cannot distinguish between on and off target.
3) Possibly specific to the Favero, it has 3 noises you can choose from. One is a trill, another is a long beep, and a third is a short beep. The two beeps sound alike except for duration, and they're not horribly distinct from the trill. Plus if you wear them in the back pocket of the knickers/breeches like my clubmates and I do, they're hard to hear in an open gym. Good luck distinguishing between you and your partner's and the guys on the next piste over if you're all using the same beepers.

| self promotion... If you're going to post a link to the product that is sold from this web site, you should link to the one we're stocking (and support this site!) Favero Trainer and Tester
What's been more popular, however, is the Epee Buzz Box from Favero.
Cheers,

Now if someone is willing to put up some directions on how to tweak the noises these boxes make to something more distinct.... |

| Cover the speaker with duct tape. It also makes the noise less shrill. |

| thx for the input
the favero (epee buzz box) is nice, but unfortunatley it doesnt work for both epee and foil
although it seems like it could be modified to work for both?
but i guess the contact timing would be off, not sure if its different for foil |

Favero has an epee buzz box and a foil buzz box plus the "FTT" which you plug a body cord into and you can switch between foil and epee.

| The problem with the Favero Tester and Trainer is that it is hard to hear if you clip it onto your back pocket and there is background noise, like other people fencing. I find the LP tester more useful.

| I guess that you could use them for bouting when you don't have scoring equipment. The problem is that you will know if you hit but the timing rules won't work. It could be way off and still say it is a double touch. If you just feel the point hit you then you'll know. I'd save your money. The box that is sold here is really good. My friend has one we use at tournaments and he hasn't had any problems as far as I know.

| there shouldnt be to much background noise as i wont be using it at a club.
I should be able to test it out before i buy it just to make sure its not inaudible
and i sure cant afford a box, and would rather not have to deal with the setup. This route is 1/10th the cost compared to box and reel
Its just being used for practise, cheap and easy being the key

| Just guessing here, but I would imagine these things do not distinguish between a hit on-target and a hit on the opponent's bell. Is this the case? (probably not a big deal during a practice situation, but worth knowing nonetheless) |

Not only will you be able to hear it, you will begin to train for the new wireless tansmitter you will be using in the future. |
