Youth center operator has history of questionable behavior with students

A former Fannin Middle School employee involved in the opening of a youth center in the old YMCA building in downtown Amarillo has a history of inappropriate conduct around children, including a 2006 no-contest plea to a charge of assault by contact against a 12-year-old student.

Matthew Walter Hite, 31, who had been employed with Amarillo Independent School District since 1999, was charged with the misdemeanor offense after a Fannin boy said Hite put his hand up the boy's shirt, pushed him backward onto a desk, then poked him on his stomach with a fencing sword during an incident at the school on Oct. 31, 2006.

Thanks for the hug, and just so everyone knows a student was poked in the belly with a foil and filed an assault charge on Matt. The student was not in gear. Matt's legal council told him not to fight it that it was not worth it and it was Matt's (my) word againist the kid. NO allegations of being a preditor were made. The student added a little flavor to the report which I didn't get a copy of until about 3 weeks ago. if I'd known what was said we would have fought it.

It was filed a class C mis. of assault just like other minor offenses (speeding tickets and such). It you touch anyone, even a handshake you can be filed on if the other person claims he felt threatened.
