    Discussion about BF stiffness

I have play Epee for five years.

Last five years, I use the China blade.

And nothing bad happen, but just too soon to break a blade.

In this month, I have purchase a ALL STAR BF white blade

    the blade batch is 12-06

I have adjustment with the tang for a little down going angle

with all star parts and size 1 pistol handle

    The problem is

I find that BF is too stiff that compare with China blade

I know the handling feeling is very good with BF balde

but when I have lesson with my coach

I make the angle bend downward........

    Have you experience this?

I have long long time for bending my blade downward.........

How come with a 5 times expensive blade ><

    Anyone can encounter this?

Give it a bowl of chicken noodle soup and plenty of rest. The sniffness should go away in 3-4 days.

EDIT: This thread used to be called "BF Sniffness."

The BFs aren't super stiff at all.

You're not supposed to sniff them.

    I realize that it's a language/translation thing, but I just couldn't suppress a snicker...

OT: The BF blades, at least the BF Whites, lose their stiffness pretty quickly. Mine take a week or two (a few dozen bouts) to stabilize.

Thanks. I have two new ones (12-06 batch) and they are stiff. I was hoping they would loosen up a tad.

I've been using the Vniti's and have not broken one all year. The BFs are lighter, but stiff.

As an aside, I was told by the vendor (Absolute/Amanda) that the blues and whites are exactly the same (except the former has been blued). Is this your experience?

So you will find BF can bend in a good angle after one or two weeks?

Depends upon use (repetitions) and style (how much they bend while hitting), but I will say between 2-6 wks.

If your BF is having stiffness problems, I suggest you dress a little sexier. I bet that'll do the trick.

Vicepang, give it a little time for it to 'break in'. Mine have taken a couple of weeks, but once they're broken in it's a wonderful blade (for me).

I have a single BF blue, which has held its stiffnes much longer than the whites have... In fact, the two whites that I've purchased at the Cherry Blossom (4/15) are now more flexible than the blue that I've had for more than a year. Granted, I don't use it much, but it still has more bouts than the other two combined... So from my experience, they're not quite the same (why else would they differ in price...).

    Can I say

"BF drive people to fence in a higher level and higher density of bouts?"

The anti-oxidizing layer. which on the BF blades isn't really necessary, but trust me there is no other intentional difference between the blades.

So because two blades from different batches, made at different times, are different, therefore, there must be a difference in the manufacturing process.

Yeah, I just got another BF blue. I've had two others, and one white before. I've noticed the blues do take a bit to break in. I remember for the first month or so, it seemed like I couldn't keep a bend in it for the life of me, which I actually liked. It meant that I didn't have to continually straighten my blade during lessons or fencing. I do like a fairly whippy blade though, and I found that after a while, they'd become a bit more bendy, so just give it some time. I did find that my one white ended up lasting not very long at all though, but it's hard to make much of a stereotype out of that, as it's the only white I've ever owned.

Oooooooooo, i just got my brand new LP BF FIE blue in today, plus a LP FIE, each with LP GT super glide tips, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe... I'm so giddy!!!

Oooohhh yeah, my LP BF blue is also a 12/06, so we'll have to see how they hold up now, won't we?

You mean you got a BF blue from the Leon Paul vendor, right? I didn't think LP makes the BF specially.

Yup. LP puts their stamp on the BF Blues that they sell. But yeah, LP doesn't make BF's, they buy them and just put their stamp on it, from what I understand.

So do you have any comment with this batch "12-06" of BF?

I haven't put it together yet. Unfortunately it looks like they sent me a !@#$'ing silver instead of a blue, grrrrrrrrrrr.
