Eh, I think I got it figured out. It's the only person that really makes sense. ALWAYS does similar things; I don't think I've ever seen him lose and not make a scene or be a dick. Also never actually seen a situation where it was actually the ref's fault (though it might have been this time I suppose...)

Who gives a crap about the awards, we're there to fence the best of the section. Being in the top 8 is enough for the ego, why should it matter what you get. Granted I do like nice awards like we got.

I had been intending to say earlier that "Being eligable to fence Div IA" is a decent enough reward of its own. Although I do think a good tradition could come from having a traveling trophy or some such for the Sectional Champion in each weapon.

Qualifying for 1As isn't really all that hard usually. Granted every now and then something happens but in general...Good prizes are a good incentive for auto-quals and fencers concerned mostly with Div1s to come out. I'd even say it's likely that an extra incentive may be nice for those that are likely to be at the top of sectionals anywya...A traveling trophy is a good idea b/c it's a great incentive to get the stronger fencers to come out and compete? I mean I'm not what one would call a power fencer by any stretch and even I tend to view sectionals as a relatively low priority event for the most part.

Where are sectionals going to be next year? I think someone said something about South Carolina?

Yes, SC will be hosting sectionals in 2008. I plan on speaking with Bill Becker in the near future about that matter, as I will be the division chair next year.

This is something you're in a position to do something about....
That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again.

    Qualification

The results are now posted on askfred, but they don't have the qualifiers listed. By my math, 1-19 qualify in the Open Epee event. Does this look correct?

    72 fencers total

    25% of 72 is 18

The winner of U19, who qualfied for Div1A that way, also won the open so 1-19 qualify.

Just take a look at the spreadsheet Oiuyt posted on the Sectionals & Fairness thread.
