| If there are as many or more qualifying positions as interested fencers then it is not necessary to run a qualifying tournament. For division-level qualifiers the minimum number of qualifying slots is 3. Divisions MAY still run qualifiers with 3 or fewer fencers, but it is not required.
Non-qualifiers are a different story and depend on what local divisional rules are in effect.
If you can give us more specifics -- what event, what division, preferably a FRED listing, etc. we'd be much more likely to be able to get you usable answers. As well as more likely to give you correct answers to the question(s) you're trying to ask.

| Both fencers qualify - there's no reason to run the qualifiers, unless of course the kids just want to fence.

| No.
If there are three fencers, all qualify. The minimum number of qualifiers is 3.
Actually, if there are some autoquals among those who register, then they can take 3 beyond those that are on the automatic qualification list. So if 4 register, but one is autoqualled, all four can go to Summer Nats.
DON"T ASSUME ANYTHING. Show up, ready to fence. You may not have to, but be prepared to. |
