Just spent the last hour shoveling!
The snow storm here in Chicago finally let up. But not before dumping 11 inches of snow on my car, stair ledge, and sidewalk. Our high tomorrow will be around 10... so I said to myself, better to shovel now at 23F. My neighbors saw me and began following suit. I just hope the city gets to work tonight plowing my street. I just have enough room to get out of my parking spot. Between there and the expressway is totally out of my hands...
GOD! I wish I was fencing!
I feel for you. Here in St. Louis we just got a little ice and snow, less than an inch. It still was enought to freeze my car doors shut and freeze the lock on my trunk while my car sat in the lot at work. I finally got my passenger door open and climbed over the center console to start the car and pop the trunk from the inside (stupid me left the scraper in the trunk). It's a manual transmission so I had to get far enough in to push in the clutch so the car would start. Then climb back over the console and go back out to get the scraper out of the trunk and work on the windows. Then back over the console to drive home. I was "smart" today and wore my long coat because I knew it would be cold. Lots of fun. By the time I got home I could get the door open with a couple of good shoulder checks. I think the wind chill is 25-30 below here.
Thanks Sabreuse!
But when I thought my proactive attitude would get me ahead, I wake up to find my street unplowed with almost a foot of snow. My job from the night before allowed me to get around my car to brush and scrape the ice that had formed around it. Thank God for keyless entry, all I had to worry about was pulling really hard on the driver side door. However, I couldn't get my car through that snow embankement until my fifth try. Man, it's so cold here, my engine temperature barely cracked the 100 degree mark althroughout my drive into the office.
I wish I was Fencing right now.
Rick, I did not shovel my car out last night. Boy, did I pay the price. My doors were snowed-in shut. Took the man and I 30 minutes to get my car out of the snow.
If it snows tomorrow, I am NOT going to practice...I'll never find parking at 9:30/10 at night.
Scarlet:
I don't blame you. And the forcast does call for snow tomorrow (3in). I'll probably do the same. My roommate has the garage this week so I'm left to park on the street until we switch on Sunday. Though I live on a normally 'easy' street, the winter parking bans on the main thoroughfares force a lot of people to the side streets. I'll be driving around for hours if I go to Fencing practice.
I guess I can do footwork or something.
I feel a little jealous. I haven't seen a decent snowfall since I was little. I live in Scotland and it used to be great waiting to see if school was cancelled for the day during winter. I miss making snowmen and "snow-angels" (I'm a bit soppy at heart!). Ah well - I guess we live in changed times.

Ok, just to really annoy the heck out of all of you, its 30C here, the sun is shining, the cicadeas are singing and there is a traffic jam at the mall to take advantage of the air-con. I LOVE SUMMER!

Later all
Rick,
No practice for me tonight. It's snowing as I type, and I have got to get jumper cables for one of our cars...it went dead, despite a brand new battery.
In Nebraska we got a foot of snow and the high on Monday was in the single digits (F). I was very brave and managed to get my little two door out to run some errands. All the intelligent people in their 4x4s just looked at me like I was nuts. But I didn't get stuck. Today we had more snow, but not enough to cancel classes. Bummer. I wouldn't mind visiting Australia right about now.
Scarlet:
I sent you an email. I'm going to take a chance and go to fencing practice tonight. If you want a ride, check your email and give me a ring.
Rick
I hear about all this snow and just wonder why it isn't in Colorado. We barely have enough snow where I am, elevation 6512ft surrounded by mountains, to cover the ground. And I just don't get it, so send some of that snow out here.
If I hear ONE more Christmas song that includes the word "snow" in it, I'm going to run someone thru!
The college we fence at has been shut down for the past couple days. I'm hoping we'll have our last night of class (big tourney for the newbies) so we can go out to dinner after. Saturday is a mixed team competition, too. UGH! I hate snow!

I went to Fencing Practice last night amid yet another snow storm. Got stuck on a road which hadn't even been cleared from the last storm the other day. It must've been 18 inches on snow on there.
But I managed to dig out of it (yes, with my mini-shovel I keep in the car) and back out from whence I came. Took me 45 mins to finally get on solid ground.
BUT!!!!! I still made it to practice... and got a foil lesson to boot... HAH!!!! Even mother nature can't stop me from Fencing!
