How much should the total cost be for the Pomme De Terre

I was just wondering if you guys would know what the cost would be for just one event at the Pomme De Terre. I was registrating online and it was like $60 and I thought that it was a little high, so feedback please.

don't register online. Active sucks. That said, it's not much less than that. mail in your entry and it'll be $20 reg and $35 per event.

    You are correct.

There will be paid referees, Wes Glon, Misha Shimshovich, EpeeMike81 are typical of a few of the referees there.

It is a very nice gym with 36, I believe, strips. Access to the Brandeis locker rooms. Most of the scoring machines will have timing and score display. Not all of the strips will be grounded, but there will be probably 10 or so.

Timely registration gets you the free T-shirt and everyone gets a (admittedly small) bag of potato chips. There are usually several Vendors.

There will be over 500 participants over 2 days and they will all be out of there by about 6 PM.

That's what it costs and we get a lot of repeat customers.

well, it actually costs $55. the other $5 is Active.com's exorbitant fee.

btw, given that PdT is opposite the Vegas World cup this year, and that Misha hasn't refereed PdT in quite some time, I'd make the over/under on the number of refs on this list making it 1...

    and I'd take the under.

That said, I don't doubt that the quality and quantity of refereeing at the Pomme will be more than sufficient.

As soon as the Division votes it so.

Write a letter/email to the division chair. Mention it at the check-in table. every little bit helps.

Jeff Altbush told me that he was thinking about using askFRED, but he anticipated problems with registrations for teams.

Either way, I love this event. It may seem a little pricey. But, on the other hand, you get plenty of fencing, a diverse group of athletes, a good venue, and exceptional organization/administration/management of the whole thing.

The Metropolitan Division adopted AskFRED two years back, and it is one of the best decisions we have made. It has substantially reduced the amount of administrative work we must deal with and is very convenient to our fencers.

I THINK the decision to use active vs askFred for the Pomme was that some people thought they had pre-registered on askFred when they hadn't (becuase they had not proceeded to pay).

I'm neither a member of your division, section nor time zone, so I suspect my influence will be limited.

Edit: Not attending the tournament either, before you jump on that.

May I inquire as to what kind of problems? (answer via PM or email if you feel it's not appropriate for a public forum)

the response when one registers for an event with payment is:

    Preregistration Successful!
Your Preregistration is not complete until payment is received.

Some people see the first line and get confused. been meaning to mention that you may want to change that...

that said, it's easy enough to email the pending pre-regges...

That last one is the only relevant point. however, I think MP's suggestion was for general consumption.

Also, since I only kind of have morals, I have no problem with you lying, and saying that if it was on Fred, you would have considered going, but certainly won't with Active.

... that might be a little dramatic.....

But yes, in general, people should mention this. Please do mention this.

Wow, I sure hope that's not the only reason they don't like FRED, 'cause that would probably be easy to fix if someone had mentioned it to me....

Or maybe they did & I forgot, or something...

    I'm lame that way sometimes.....

Mmmmm. I'd rather tell the truth and point out that I'd prefer to fence in a different tournament, which also doesn't list on FRED. :)

If I didn't have the conflict, the lack of a FRED listing wouldn't affect my decision on whether or not to attend (I would). I would, however, enter via snailmail in preference to active.com.

This is a huge reason why askFRED is great, especially for large tournaments like PdT. If you have a problem with FRED, or something is not quite satisfactory, Peet will likely be able to fix it. I serously doubt you get that kind of service with active. We all appreciate all the work he puts into that system.
