If anyone has any images that they've either taken, kept, found, saved etc.
I'd love to see them. If you can't post here please notify me that you have a picture here and then e-mail it to me at ringwraithsrideinblack (at) yahoo (dot) com . If it's an image you found online, then I'd love a link to it, or preferably just attach it to your post.
You see, I like to paint and a while back I found that I had way too much fun painting a scene from a fencing bout that I'd found online. (I've attached the shunken image of my painting bit here is a link to the full sized version: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/45516329/?qo=14&q=by%3Astranger-in-black&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps).I'm thinking of starting another one but I need a good reference photo first. This one will definetly be better than the first seeing as I've had more experiance with acrylics.
Keep in mind that I've looked in a lot of places.. so I'm really asking for good pictures to represent this amazing sport.
Thanks for your time.

I've been there, and I don't like haow the site is set up...it's pretty annoying to navigate. I'm also aware that there is a photogallary here at F.net but I thought it would be more interesting to see what pictures other members came up with.

What is it about our site that you find annoying to navigate?
We're looking into a redesign over the next month and your suggestions would be welcome (or those from anyone, for that matter).
It's just that in order to find one picture, you have to sift through the slideshow of other pictures to get to it.
I see ... well, you can always go directly to the main galleries where you have direct access to all the photos without slide shows.
The slide shows are a feature of the "highlight" pages (at least some of them), and we're going to be doing something different with those, in particular. There may be a slide show option on highlight pages, but it won't be the primary feature.
If you go to "view and shop" on the main menu from the home page, and then select the first option, you have access to all the galleries without slide shows. They're categorized by events, etc.
While Serge may or may not take issue with the OP painting, do be aware that you appear awfully close to, if not well beyond, the bounds of fair use under US copyright law.
Hard to imagine that recreating a photograph as a painting constitutes a sufficiently transformative work.

i agree.
while "art" has some leeway, the easiest way to deal with that issue is to break out a camera of your own. :-) gives source material, plus it's also good for your fencing to watch for tells!

I understand all of this, and I do not indend to abuse any material I use, infact, I have never ever sold any art, and I don't even distribute them. I just create them for my own fun and personal pleasure.
And as I do take and have pictures taken at events, I'm not fencing at a level where these impressing poses take place. We're lucky to get a clear action photo.
So.. I hope I didn't step on any one's toes here, I don't mean anyone any harm.

Commerical benefit for you is just one of the dimensions that courts will look at. Not selling the art helps your position, but certainly does not guarantee you "fair use" protection.
Not distributing it helps tremendously. Then again, via your postings in this thread alone, you've already shown it not to be the case.
IANAL, and even if I were YMMV. Consider the above couple of messages more as a friendly reminder that there are laws which draw lines awfully close to where you are treading.
