finding a club/lessons?

My 10yo would like to start taking fencing lessons. We don't really know where to look for a club or lessons near here, nor how to evaluate the quality of a given program. Does anyone know of anything good within a reasonable driving distance of Bennington, VT?

thanks!

I would check on the results for the HB division and see what clubs have Y10 fencers. From there I would see which were closest and check each one of them out.

Most places have websites and you can check to see what kind of kid classes they have and the price range.

Thanks, that's a good idea. What are the rules on the age classes. My son will turn 11 in June. Should we be looking for Y12, or will he still be Y10 for a while?

Also (and I suspect this is a "religious" issue) but does anyone have recommendations as to which style it is best to start out with?

Thanks Again!

Next season (August 07-July 08) he will have a "fencing age" of 11.

If looking for results, look for youth results of any type (Y10, Y12, Y14) not just a specific age group.

Talk to the coach(es) at any prospective club. Make sure it's a good fit for you and your son. Visit and see what a typical club session is like. See how the coach works with students in a lesson and in group work. Make sure this is a good environment in which for your son to learn and grow.

Since summer is coming up see if any of the clubs have summer camps. That would be a good way to get the lay of the land.
