If you could enter only one tournament, What would it be?

If you could enter only one tournament each year, not counting Nationals, Sectionals, Divisionals, or any NAC's what would it be?

    Why?

The Prise de Fer Memorial Day Round Robin. It's just a GREAT value given the large amount of fencing you get for a reasonable entry fee.

The Prise de Fer Memorial Day Round Robin.

If i'm only going to get to do one tournament a year, I might as well make the most of it and get a ton of bouts!

I'd say it'd have to be a beer-drinking tournament. I'd lose horribly, but it'd be fun....

Yeah, I'd go with the Memorial Day Round Robin too.

If I had to pick something else (since it's a little unfair to pick between "normal format tounaments" and "the most fencing you'll ever efficiently do in one day of competition"), I would pick Pomme de Terre.

And, damn, I'll be missing Pomme this year for the first time since I've been fencing. ..... I considered flying up from North Carolina for it, but that seems a little rediculous, considering all the variables...........

The Bourbon Open, or any tournament with top shelf whisky as the prize.

    It's so hard to choose!

Probably the Round Robin just because of the amount of fencing. But that's kind of cheating.

Among tournaments with normal pool-->DE formats, definitely the Mercury Cup for epee, or the Pomme de Terre for foil. The leve of fencing at those events is hard to beat, and they're both about two hours away for me.

The Memorial Day Round Robin, the Pomme de Terre, any of the Mercury Cup events at the NYAC, the Cherry Blossom Open, the Hangover Open (pick one; there are a bunch around the country, but I'm thinking of either VA or NYAC) the Crescent City Open (though I wonder if that will reach back to its former Glory) and in all likelihood several others I'm forgetting are all fine candidates. As were the Long Beach Invitational and Duel in the Desert, which, sadly, I believe are no longer with us.

I'd probably have to go with all the PdF fencers up there and say the Round Robin, though. I had a BLAST last year, and sadly I won't be there this time around.

I would have to go with the Remenyik because of its strength, size, and proximity to me. Plus, they give out swords to the top 8 (Like I'll ever get one).

Where is that, and are previous results online?

Were it still being held, The Duel in the Desert would have to be the best tournament EVER!

Yes, I would have said the DITD without hesitation. Absent that, I would have said the LBI, but now I hear THAT one, too, is defunct!

Therefore, it is lucky that I need not make such a severely limited selection, because I wouldn't know where to start...

NB Now that Long Beach has rung down the curtain I was thinking of resorting to one that I could not make heretofore because it was held around the same time: the Sabre Cave. But that, too, was not held this year, and thus I suspect is gone as well.

Drat, the attrition rate is disconcerting...

The Hangover Classic (Va. Div. style)

Not only getting to be a nice big regional event with good refs and a decent venue (edit - except for the romantic (and aromatic) french restaurant themed restroom and lack of locker rooms), but alcohol prizes!

And the best part - underage competitors have to have a parent/guardian/coach receive that prize if they win... Now where did I put those prodigal junior students I had around here...

In previous years, it would have always been the Pomme de Terre, but the Cherry Blossom is sneaking up there.

Hmm, would be a tough call between the Glasgow Open and the Alternative Triathlon. The former is the epitome of how and why tournaments are organised; organisers are tough and friendly in equal measure and it attracts some lovely people. The latter, even though it's epee, is 16 epee bouts, 16 games of chess and 16 pints with added team elements and all the progressive fun as the day rolls on.

Either the Remenyik, or the Hangover Classic (VA) the first to see all my old buddies, and get beat by them (you're and A now!!???) and the latter for the excellent comp only a days drive....
