Small Sword? I have been looking for a good place to buy a small sword from, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? My family is all fencers, and I thought a replica small sword might make a good gift. I thought the people here might have some experience with vendors... -

Array A smallsword?
Do you want sharp, bated, or no preference?
Arms & Armor has a standard smallsword and a silvered version, available with sharp blades or practice blades. CLICK HERE
G. G. Godwin, Inc., has a colichemard available with a nice scabbard and an hanger. CLICK HERE
Pheonix Metal Creations makes smallswords, but is cutting back production. I think they are blund, but am not sure. CLICK HERE
Cold Steel has an oversized, overweight model available. CLICK HERE
Smiling Fox Forge makes some nice replicas for stage and re-enactment use (blunted). CLICK HERE
I also know of a custom-made pattern-welded smallsword up for sale for only $3800. It's beautiful, and unfortunately somewhat more than I can comfortable afford. The preceding post brought to you by Rabid Monk (TM). Rabid Monk: informative, irreverent, interesting, random and downright odd posts, done with pride since 1983. -
It would be neat to have one that was sharp, but more importantly I want one that is balanced and weighted right. Too bad you can't flick one though -
Kevin Dougherty at http://www.tcasfencing.com makes good quality, durable and well-balanced practice smallswords using #2 practice epee blades.
If they actually want to fence with it, it would be a better option than most of the above and a lot cheaper than the Arms and Armor ones.

Info from website
Salamander Armoury is owned and operated by Jim Hrisoulas, a full time bladesmith with close to 40 year's experience in hand forging fine blades. All of the work pictured here on this site (and custom work as well) is 100% hand-crafted by Jim.
Man literally wrote the book...actually 3.....on blade making...
Tell him I sent you...
Prices arent bad either....we gave all of our graduating seniors custom made daggers from Jim...

Array Some time ago I bought a Washington Smallsword (Hanwei) and fitted it with the blade from a Scottish Court Sword. This blade is far too heavy to make a manageable weapon (over two pounds total). I'm experimenting with regrinding the blade. I started with making the hollow grind much more pronounced using small contact wheels and my KMG1. I've managed to cut about 6 oz off the weight without affecting the profile. The blade remains very stiff and suitable for use.
I am going to see if I can't get another 6 oz off though a deeper grind and small reduction in width. To date I have found no suitable blade. The double wide epee blades are still too flexible and weak (though suitable for fencing).
Anyone know if Hanwei will sell their small sword blades separately? -

Array You could try either of these two armories: DelTin
or Darkwood Armory
They both sell quite good blades for use and display. "Rub her feet!" - Lazarus Long, Time enough for Love, Robert A. Heinlein "Never moon a werewolf."

Of course no photo available. Almost every 'smallsword' blade I've seen is just a modified epee blade - typically very flexible and light compared to historical blades.
The Hanwei on the other hand is far too heavy - probably representative of the earliest smallsword blades.
I am going to contact Darkwood and see what they say. DelTin doesn't reply to emails. -

Array The Darkwood armory is a diamond cross section blade (according to them) not a triangular. Similar Threads -
