Rankings I keep hearing talk about A's B's D's and E's. In what order do these go? I'm a rookie, and still tryin' to figure all this stuff out

it goes in alphabetical order...A-E. A is highest and E is lowest. The only thing lower than an E is a U which means unranked. The only way to get ranked is to win usfa sanctioned competitions or place high in usfa competitions with ranked fencers. one reason why 17 is the greatest of all numbers: 17 has 2 numbers...17 * 2 = 34...ah...but 1 + 7 = 8...and 34 + 8 = 42! -

unless of course you live in new zealand, in which case you have c class fencers beating a class, simply because competition is very heavy in 2 (1 alot more than the other) places. hehehehehehehe

You can find a list of how you earn which USFA rating at http://www.USFencing.org/Documents/R...sMan/Class.asp
That will give you an idea of what kind of tournament you're going to have to get to in order to earn your rating.
Also, something that Falcon17 didn't mention:
Your rating actually includes a letter and a number indicating the year you earned the rating, e.g., D2000 means you earned your D this year. If you do not "re-earn" this rating (or improve on it) in three years, it will downgrade to an E2003. In 2006, you would become unrated again.
Conversely, if you earn a D at a tournament this year, and next year you place in another tournament that would earn you a D, your rating would upgrade from a D2000 to a D2001.
Make sense?

Barry--
Good description of the system, but the time limit for a rating is 4 years-- so a D00 will stand until 2004, and then drop to an E05 at the start of the 2005 season.

and also what they didnt mention is that lets say you have an B-00 in foil then you have (i think) a C-00 in saber and epee Fence with the best die like the rest! -
with a C00 you would have a E00 in the remaining weapons. B00 a D00, A00 a C00. I don't know how accurate those free ratings are, but they help. -
Good morning gang,
Actually the rating transfer was removed from the ops. manual for the USFA this year. Though you still are seeded into any tournaments as if you had the rating, so if you are a B00 in foil, you are seeded into a sabre tournament as if you were a D00 in sabre, but still technically ranked as a U.
Strange, I know, but thats the way it is.
Happy days,
B.

My misunderstanding, Dave. Thanks for the correction.
I guess I misread the rule. I seem to remember something like, "after three years..."

Array The reason for removing not getting a bump on your "off" weapons (e.g., A00 in foil implying C00 in sabre and epee) is because of the new D-and-higher rule for NACs. Now, everyone has to EARN their ratings in each weapon (which is good...I always felt, as people have read in RSF, that a rating in one weapon doesn't imply much in another weapon).
Why I should be *seeded* as a C00 in a sabre event is a valid question. -

Array Also, you don't need to win a tournament to earn a rating. You only have to finish sufficiently high, as required in the USFA Op Manuals requirements. -
no i think that if you know saber you can fence foil perety well (i tested this) useing my saber skills i fenced foil and did perety well i think alot of it is timing and movment Fence with the best die like the rest! Similar Threads -
