Difference between weapon makers Hi, I am relatively new to fencing and am thinking about getting my own set of gear (right now I am just using my schools gear). While comparing blades I noticed a big price difference between Triplette (TCA) weapons and Dinamo weapons. Could someone tell me what the difference between the two are and if you think the TCA weapons are worth double the price of the Dinamo weapons.
Thanks in advance! -

Thanks in advance! It's more marketing than anything else. Triplette does not make it's own blades...in fact, there's not a single blade forge anywhere in the Americas....all the blades from from Europe, Asia, and Russia.
And even THEN there are sometimes no differences....the only differance between an StM non-FIE epee blade and one from Uhlmann or Allstar....the name stamped on the blade....they're ALL made by StM. -

Array For what it's worth, Dinamo (aka Fleche) blades are quite decent for their price. -

Thanks in advance! Weapon Assemblers might be a more accurate term. Most vendors make wepons based on your speicifications for guards, sockets , blades, tips, etc. You might be able to buy a complete weapon from Leon Paul that is made entirely of parts they manufacture or design. Most weapon "vendors" assemble weapons but only make a fraction of the parts.
Really, you (and your knowledge or opinions of specific parts) determines how good, how reliable and how much your gear will cost. I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess. -

Array What weapon are you looking to get made? That way I can point you to the appropriate thread(s) on the different blades for that weapon.

I am looking to start out getting a saber, and then later on an epee -
