I also think Stiessel and Bergdahl has the capacity to reach the podium in the JME.
(Cant wait to see Sweden pass USA in the medal standings.) |

| For all of you who have been asking ... lots more photos are on the way from the event, finals, etc. I've taken already more than 7,000 photos in Belek and it's taking time to sort out the best ones (so that you don't have to!) ...
Thanks for everyone's patience... there's lots of good stuff on the way.

| Congratulations to Sweden.
Two medals and another top 16 in Junior Womens Epee. All three had been seeded in the top 9.

| Where is ALL The winner of jr. women's foil is listed on the FIE website as Sandra Bingenheimer from "ALL". What country is that? It is not listed in the medal count, nor can I find it in the FIE's list of country codes. |

| Yay, Graham--people kept running up to me at the Cherry Blossom and telling me where Graham was in the standings.

| Yeah, but the country code for Germany is GER. That's what it says on their backs, and on ranking lists, and everywhere else. |

| Until a few years ago, the FIE was using a French-based standard (which accounts for the "ALL" abbreviation for Germany). At that point, they decided unilaterally to adopt the Olympic standard for abbreviations, which is in use now. For example, Romania was ROU and changed to ROM; likewise, Hungary used to be HON and now it's HUN (HON is now Honduras).
I asked Peter Jacobs, VP and treasurer of the FIE, if he knew if the Olympic abbreviation list was based in English or some other language, but he did not know. But he did know that the Olympic list is the official standard.
There are still a few scattered cases of the old French system in use, but that's the answer. |

| Hi!
And the surest of team golds turns to dust! Russia wins 45-39 over USA in the JWST semifinal! Stars&stripes will fight for the bronze against Poland, 15:30 Turkish time. (14:30 CET, so they start in 54 minutes)
Have a nice time!

So what does GER stand for in French? |
