HURRAY! My wait is over! I'm about to leave to go fence!
I came here over a month ago with almost no idea what fencing was, decided to start, became a senior member on f.net, and now I get to start! HURRAY!

I loved it!
I did not fence, the coach talked about how he got into fencing and started teh club, the history of fencing, the weapons and equipment, and then the time was up. I can't wait until next week though, basic footwork and attacks. It was kind of embarasing though, of the 8 people who signed up, 3 including myself showed. The two others were both little girls, probably ages 12 and 9. Hope the rest show up next time! I can't wait, I think I'm really going to love this!

Well you got your first little taste firsthand. Learning the basics is an interesting experience, and thought some find it boring it is important to get a very good grasp on the fundementals before moving on so dont get discouraged by the seemingly monotonous footwork as its half of what fencing is.

I kenne das.
I think foot work will be great, as I feel about all of fencing.
Question, how hard is it to get a national ranking?

National Ranking as in put on the points list or a rating like a D or E?

For the former it varies for weapon and gender and age and is quite hard to do. Lots of practice for a few years is probably needed unless you are really really good naturally.

Low level ratings can be earned fairly easily but once again this can be dependent on weapon, age, and gender. If you are in an area where there is relatively little fencing in a particular weapon you might find it hard to get enough people for a rated tournament.

No, I was asking because my coach and some one else in the club just got it in foil this year. I was just asking to judge him.
