Junior and Cadet World Championships Video Coverage (Belek, Turkey)

Fencingpictures is covering all individual finals of next week's Jr/Cadet WC's, much like last year. Video of team matches is unlikely.
If possible, FP will do a live stream of all-day video, like they did in Torino (dependent, of course, on bandwidth availability and so on).

FP is also looking for suggestions for what in particular people want to see, both live and in the upcoming DVD. Guillermo says that the DVD will come out within 10 days of the competition being over, and they'll start promoting the DVD next week. I expect they'll be reading this thread, so speak up.

Epee, men's epee is what I'd like to see.

Sadly, I don't see how FP can cover everything I want to see. Would be nice to see some diversity in who you cover in the initial stages though. Maybe cover some of the teams you dont usually cover , yet still popular teams? US and UK men's foil teams for instance:P?
Oh, and for anybody who is interested in the US team:

FencingPhotos.com will also be at the championships, posting photos of the events, the ceremonies, the people, and more. We will post notes on Fencing.net when new photos are uploaded and ready to see.

And, similarly, we are interested in receiving info about what and who people want to see on the site.

Even though it is traditionally one of the less exciting weapons, relative to the others, I'd like to see some of the US Women's Epee bouts, as I know more of them than any of the others. (well, unless you post armoury pictures)

It would be nice to have some early footage of as many different countries as possible. Usually FP only covers the top 4 or so, couldnt you have that+ a pool bout for every country? Would give us supporters of those other countries the chance to see our athletes in action.

I will put in my vote for men's foil.

Does anyone know if they are going to be showing the scores anywhere?

It goes without saying that I want to see sabre. But my only specific request is for quantity. The madrid world cup dvd was worth every cent because of the ammount of footage contained therein. I think if the DVDs are going to cost as much as they are that something close to the number of bouts contained on the madrid DVD should be the base for quantity of content.

I also vote for men's foil. In particular, Gerek Meinhardt in CMF and JMF is a) one of the most fun-to-watch fencers around, and b) a rising star, destined for great things; catching his bouts would probably provide the most entertainment to US fencers.

I just want to emphasize my last point...FP is supposed to cover FIE coverage, not US coverage. So please, try to cover fencers from a few different federations if possible, even if it is in the earlier stages of the competition. Of course, I understand only wanting to cover the US team matches and the top 4, but there are a whole bunch of other countries out there people want to watch. I'm not saying cover the team from every single little country out there, but if you could try, it would be a great start, even if its just one minute of footage each.

Oh, and of course, if you really want a weapons preference, men's foil anyday.

Since there are two "FP" (FencingPictures - which is video - and FencingPhotos - which is still photography, and often we collaborate), I will say that we at FencingPhotos do try to cover a variety of nationalities ... but you are right that we should get more preliminary images of various nationalities and especially those who rarely make the top ranks. It is really a matter of bandwidth at these big events.

FencingPictures has added challenges, especially in moving around the prelim halls, with setup, access on a busy floor, crews, languages, etc., and a big audience for them is English-speaking ... which is less of an issue for us.

So we're still interested in what you all would like to see, and, specifically, what interests you in still photography images (as well).

Thanks ... the feedback is helpful!

Hey...one quarrel I often have with both FPs is that a lot of stuff is close quarters fighting, meant to look "good" instead of useful. Thats cool, but it would be nice to have some nice stills of the entire strip, during a nice straight out bog standard lunge for example. Doesn't look quite as impressive, probably doesn't sell fencing too the non fencing public either, but its more technically useful than any number of close ups.

Seconded. Or at least get the ref's hands and let viewers at home count on their fingers.

OK, thanks for the suggestions. We will try and accommodate peoples' requests as we can.

We are also going to try and get some "behind the scenes" shots of teams in preparation, practice, etc. if we have time.

Referee shots are difficult during finals/semis because they are often in almost complete darkness at world venues with the overhead lighting and stark contrast -- which is great for shooting fencers but not much else.

Also, frequently I take many types of shots, of which a large number don't make it onto the site. I might take several hundred shots of a couple of bouts, and only post about 40 - 50. If there's a specific action, position, etc. you want of a particular bout, weapon, fencer, etc. please contact me/us directly and I will try and post it for you.

Castellani isn't on the Junior team, so you'll have to hope that they got some videos of him in Cadet. Which is somewhat probable, since he was in the semifinals.
