| Fencing Movies? Maybe a thread like this has been started, and if so please direct me to it, i did not find it when I looked through the search results.
But I was wondering what films everyone loves that have to do with fencing. I mean Rob Roy, the Duelist and the Princess Bride are classics, but I am sure there are a bunch I have not seen. Just wondering if anyone has any favorite movies with fencing in them.

| I've heard of a film called Sunshine, about a Hungarian (I think) fencing family. Haven't seen it myself, but I've heard it's good.

| Here's a link to one of the old threads on the topic: Fencing in Movies
By the Sword was funny, at least it was actually about fencers though. I took part in the fencing demo put on during the movie premiere, it was fun.
Though these are not fencing movies per se, Mark of Zorro had a decent sword fight for theatrical fencing as did the first Pirate's of the Carribbean (the scene in the shop).
My fencing coach told me about an old film, Scaramouche that he personally liked. |

| Errol Flynn Errol Flynn, the old stuff. I think I was inspired to fence by watching the old Robin Hood films. I think it was the fact that he talked alot while he fenced.
But speaking of movies I was trying to find info on two films.
1. The Boys in the Band - from 1970
2. Title Unknown but may have been the boys in the band. The movie was about a group of youngish guys living in Manhattan. Two of them were best friends and shared an apartment, one was the so-called -handsome one- with all the social connections, the other roommate was the introverted guy and not considered 'handsome'. They both competed for dates and finally the introverted guy meets a girl and invites her to the apartment and they were going to go out. When she gets to the apartment the door is opened by the 'handsome' roommate who tells her the introverted guy is out and will she wait. She steps in and he starts talking with her. In five minutes he's made a date with her and they both get ready to take off. They get their coats on and are walking out the apartment, when the introverted guy comes home, walks in and sees they're getting ready to go out. They both laugh and take off. The introverted plain looking guy is stunned, he sits on the chair in the living room and the camera pans out slowly while the guy sits there in stunned silence and starts weeping. That was the end and it was very powerfully done, I've never forgotten it, but .....what is the name of the film? |

| So I went to Amazon.com to get a copy of the Duellist, which has gotten such good reviews on this forum over the years. But its DVD format is "ws sub," and I have no idea what that means, and apparently neither does Google.
Is it safe to watch? What does ws sub mean?

| Richard Lester's films of The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers from the mid-1970's. Accept no substitutes--these are the best! Great scripts, impeccable casting, and very creative staging for all the combat scenes.

I think maybe it is time to get off my rear end and do something about that.

WS = amazonspeak for "widescreen format"
SUB = amazonspeak for "with subtitles," but that's not really helpful without saying which language the audio is in and which language the subtitling is in, which Amazon usually doesn't do.
There are more examples, but that's all you needed to know here.
