Array Bukantz quoted in NYT J.B. was quoted in the New York Times concerning the ban on blogging at the Pan American games. He called it "egregious censorship".
It seems no athlete, coach, trainer, or other participant at all will be allowed to blog from the event. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/02/te...ref=technology If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

I wonder if people who read Bukantz being credited as team captain will assume he's actually a competitor at the Pan Am games, like a Football Team Captain would be.
Interesting article. I hadn't heard anything about it with regards to Turin, I guess I just missed the story. -

Array Without passing judgement on the wisdom of filtering Jeff's bloggability ,
if you notice, the article says there will be a limit on blogs with audio or video content, not plain written blogs.
Still a bad idea, but it's not totally Draconian. We can probably all do with a little less cell-phone horseplay videos on the internet, but it's sad the governing bodies are more worried about corporate sponsors than allowing the athletes to share their personal stories. It's not entirely clear to me. For example:
For similar reasons, the authorities of the Pan American Games wanted to protect the exclusivity of their events by barring athletes from blogging or “vlogging” with audio or video content.
Is it "barring athletes from {blogging or “vlogging”} with {audio or video content}
or
"barring athletes from blogging or {“vlogging” with audio or video content}"
combined with:
When the Pan American Games start in Brazil in July, thousands of top athletes will run, wrestle and leap, but they will not be able to indulge in one popular daily exercise: blogging.
Which makes no exceptions for pictures, video or anything else as being the only thing banned, just blogging in general.
It looks like the different sports organizations have chosen different levels of restriction, and while Rugby is allowing all text blogs, it doesn't look to me like the Pan Am games are. Similar Threads -
