electric epee... Okay, I know this is probably a stupid question, but I was wondering, just how do you score points in an electric epee bout? I mean, the target area is the whole body, right...so, do you have a whole body suit, or something fancy for the epee tip? -
Nothing very fancy. If the tip gets pushed in, a short spring at the end of the tip makes a contact across the two wires running up the blade, and it signals a touch-- in other words, just a simple push-button switch. The little contact spring is there so you can adjust the amount of travel needed to register a touch.
To prevent a touch from being signaled if the opponent's guard or the metal piste are hit, the end of the tip and the contact spring are in electrically connected, so if the point is depressed against a grounded surface (the weapon or the piste) it grounds out the contact between the two wires and no touch gets signaled (that's how older machines work-- microprocessor boxes do things differently, but with the same result).

Array Antares, have you never seen an electric epee bout?
hmmm
Can't elaborate any more than Neevel did about how hits are scored but I am really surprised you don't know how hits are scored in electric epee.
Does no-one at your club fence epee? -
Living in Oklahoma it is not hard to miss epee. At my club..(hehehe) no one fences foil, we have 6 epeeists, and 2 sabres. Oh, well antares...don't worry, and go somewhere and see a tourny. Also, keep asking questions after you see things. "Pain is just weakness leaving your body." -
Poor Antares! don't worry I'm sure your club will grow! It is not who you are or what you've done, It is who you WILL be and what you WILL do! Similar Threads -
