What is a good way to learn how to repair equipment for free? I want to learn how to repair fencing equipment, specefically weapons but I can't
afford to spend any money on learning how.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
p.s. Any tips on learning to repair lames and scoring equipment would also be helpful.

in the last year i went from never fixing a weapon to going through my club's entire inventory doing repairs on virtually every weapon. college fencing clubs frequently have only one or two people repairing their weapons, and would be greatful if someone volunteered to help out (this definitely goes is you're in my area!!) that'd be a good way to get some hands-on experience. there are a few manuals out that are pretty good describing the weapons, what goes wrong with them, and how to fix them, but they're still no substitute for actually troubleshooting and working on the weapons.
as for lames, craig has a good caring for lames section in the armory now. i've never actually had to patch lames, so i'm as interested in that as you. -
I know none of the clubs in my area woudl ever turn away a would be armorer. We have a hard time getting our officers to show up for armoring sessions.
Talk to your club armorer I am sure he / she woudl be more than happy to have another pair of hands. Actually doing it is probably the best way to learn. -

Array If for some reason you can't go to a club armourer,(don't have one or he/she is clueless too) go to any event where there is an armourer and tel them you want to learn how to do it and volunteer to help. You will learn alot. Especailly if you manage this at a national events armoury table.
they love to have help. If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

To Angel,
I am planning in opening my repair at several NACS this Year. I be more then happy to have you drop by to watch me and for me to teach and pass on my knowledge of 20 years.

It is not rocket science. Take some weapons apart and put them back together and work on it until the weapon works. Just remember, when you rewire clean the blade of all the old glue and put a small bend in the weapon when you let the glue dry. Prectice makes....... "!Es mejor morir a pie que vivir a rodillas !"
