Array Fencing Camps I just couldn't resist with the summer approaching fast.
If you have a really good summer camp that you can recommend for kids/teenagers let us know about it and what age range or level it would be geared toward.

Array All 3 of my kids went to the Penn State fencing camp when they were starting out. I think it's an excellent program for younger/less experienced fencers.
I sent the girls (19 and 16 at the time) to the Szombathely camp in Hungary. Except for the food, they had a blast. My youngest has also been to Andy Ma's camp, although she did it in the winter break rather than summer. I'd recommend that for more experienced fencers. -

Array The poll should have at LEAST one more option, which, of course, means it's....
The answer depends on the camp, the athlete(s), the cost (financial and non-), and the value placed on attending (both in improvement in fencing and other value). Value should be assessed both for the athlete and for other people (A week at camp: $450. 2 new FIE epee blades: $200. Travel to/from camp: $350. A week without little Johnie around that house: Priceless).

Array I don't know what the camps are like in the us, but the ones I've been to They haven't fed us enough, a mate of mine went to marek's camp and had to leave 'cos he lost too much mass in too short a time. He had low bf to begin with and weighed about the same as me (14.5) his muscle just fell off, so if you can ensure proper nutrition, then yes go for it. -

I went to a two day marek camp and lost like 4 lbs. It was ridicustupid. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Array I went to the Advanced Epee' camp at the Northwest Fencing Center last summer. It improved my fencing ability exponentially, I can't recommend it enough. RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:

Array Two of my boys went to NWFC for their Winter Camp and loved it. This summer one is going to the Air Force Academy Camp and the other three are going to Rochester (if I can get their papers in tomorrow) and possibly, if I can come up with the money, two will go the NWFC epée camp.
I think that it is a great way to increase skills, see other coaches at work, and make new friends " ... or spend fifty years learning to begin to learn to beat your adversary at fencing. Array My kids have done the RFC camps and also got a lot out of them. The coaches there are first rate in my book. -

Array Some friends of mine have gone to the OFA elite sabre camp and have said it's just absolutely top-notch. I've never been but I'm going this summer. -

Sorry, I'm new to this forum, so not up on a lot of the lingo. Plus, we live outside of the U.S., so I don't know much about 1)camps in the U.S. and 2)what my son's ability level is compared to other American fencers his age. He's 13 and has been fencing (sabre) for about 3 years. What is the OFC elite sabre camp? And the RFC camp? Also, does anyone know anything about the Princeton Fencing camp? It seems like a lot of the U.S. camps are around the 20th of June, which is too early for us, since that's right around when school gets out around here. Any recommendations for a good sabre camp, U.S. or (preferably) Europe? I know about the one in Hungary, just wondering if there's one closer to home (Spain). Similar Threads -
