If you mean in the Y12 last Friday, I heard from someone there that Bernstein beat Nobuo. Seems he wasn't having the best of days.

Whoa! Leland is also from the Mteam, and I hadn't fenced him in a while. I knew he was getting better, but nice one! I'll have to congratulate him when I get back to CA.

(Brian Wang and Jacob Stein are also from the same club, making 5 out of 8 of the finalists from the same club. That must be a lovely podium picture.)

Just came back from AZ. Customer service everywhere was crap. We ate dinner last night at hotel arizona and it took us around 45 minutes to get our food after hunting down the manager. And then my food wasn't hot when I got it.

Arrrgh my fencing bag is missing (along with quite a few people on my flight). I just got a new bag too.

Today I spent my time cheering on the people from my club who were in events. One of my friends was in the Div 1 Epee event for the first time. He made it to his second round of DE's where he lost 15-14. The guy who beat him lost in the next round to some unknown named Cody Mattern.

From there I went to watch the Y-10s. Micro-fencers!!! What is the minimum age for that group? I swear some of them couldn't have been more than 6! I am a hardened old curmudgeon but they were cute and fun to watch! One of the kids from our salle made it to his third DE. He lost when he faced another left-hander. One more day. I'm taking tomorrow off from work so I can watch it wind down.

There is a dark haired young woman who has been working the armory. I'm not sure if she is a full armorer or an apprentice but she is certainly working as hard as the rest of them! I suppose I could have volunteered but they are working so efficently in there that I probably would just have gotten in the way!

    Yes, she was afire today.

For awhile I wondered if she was going to blow the gold medal bout, since she went out to a wide lead early and led by 6 points at the break---and all of the bouts I'd seen her win previously, at least against credible opponents, had been comebacks. And indeed Sada almost overtook her near the end...

It was a very gripping bout. Unlike the men's final, the women's had some people around me in the audience taut as piano wires, and I don't think it was because they were partisans of one or the other fencer, but just because the bout was exciting and tense.
