Array The first thing that I noticed is that there are actually "Welcome United States Fencing Association" banners up and down the street on the way to the convention centre.
You go in the front door and maybe 100 meters is the registration and a big glass window that looks down on the fencing venue. Fencing is down stairs in a large room about a two minute walk from the front door - no shades of Atlanta " ... or spend fifty years learning to begin to learn to beat your adversary at fencing. After that you can start on mathematics, until it is time to learn to plough.” White, T.H. The Once and Future King (emphasis added) -

Array OK, for those of you who haven't left yet. There are a total of 36 strips. 32 downstairs and 4 upstairs. Everything was set up as of about 7:30 this evening although I don't think they did more than check to see that the box would turn on. Vendors that were on site as of this evening are: FencingPBT, Absolute, Fencing Post, Blue Gauntlet, and Swordmasters. There was also a booth selling T-shirts and Hats. So there you go, good luck everybody! Fail until you succeed!

Just stopped at a really nice little spot called Chris's Cafe. It's in La Placita right to left a touch a touch after you exit the Hotel Arizona for the venue. Great prices. Really nice people. Extended fencing hours for breakfast and dinner. They're very proud of their city and if they're any indication we're in for excellent food service. I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.

By fencing hours do you mean hours the cafe is open? -

Array Whoopee! My avatar is back. -
Anybody know who beat Nobuo Bravo in Y14MF? My guess is either he or Alexander screwed up in pools, and they met in the round of 8, since I'm pretty sure Nobuo could beat the other people in the top 4. -
Lee just beat Rogers, I believe, 15-10 for the gold medal in sabre. Williams would be one of the 3rds and I don't know who the other was.
The only other final I saw today was Y14 women's epee in which someone from San Antonio beat someone from Las Vegas. I have a horrible memory for names so that's all I can remember for sure. -
Define "screwed up in pools". There were 91 of the little fellows (note this was Y-12 BF). That's 13 opportunities for someone to go 6-0, and have a pretty nice indicator to boot. In fact, we know someone else did just as well, because Adam ElKassas tied for 5th with Nobuo.

Hmm. Y-14 WE from San Antonio not named Hurley.
Gabrielle Strass?
Oksana Samarodov? Those are the only names I can remember off the top of my head. -
Other comments on the venue - it wasn't too hot, probably just right for fencing although I got a little cold watching in my shorts and t-shirt. There were a few food vendors and lots of soda vending machines and there was no problem bringing your own food in. Lots of water fountains.
There seemed to be plenty of space and just about the right number of chairs. They posted pools and strip assignments on 4 or 5 boards all around the venue so there wasn't much crowding. Seems to be very well organized from the bit I saw.
And I'm not sure the fencers noticed since they are inside all day, but this is perfect weather for a visit to Tucson! Not too hot and not to cold with a beautiful blue sky and lots of blooming wild flowers. Enjoy! -

Array Well, I just got back. The Div 1 womens foil was still going on and Iris Zimmerman was still in when I left. The Armorers table was so well organized that I wasn't needed for anything so I just got to hang out and watch fencing all day. I did take a hit in the checkbook though with all those vendors about! Tomorrow I hope to get up early enough to watch the Div 1 Mens Epee. Fail until you succeed!
