Some of our club members with Y10 fencers were discussing the same memo from the info packet regarding "0" blades only. Sorry, I have no info other than to tell you to bring along your checkbook and a tool kit. We're bringing along birth certificates, too, just in case records are messed up from the SYCs. -

Array O or 2 blades are okay The rule book states 0 or 2 blades. Someone should send an email to Christine about the error.
I printed this out and will have it handy strip side; http://www.usfencing.org/usfa/content/view/1797/100/
See you there!

Yeah I think I'll be reinacting that at the hotel. Anyone dare me? If there's free equipment involved I'll DEFINATELY do it.BWAHAHAHAAH. Dude you're scaring me! That is such an ugly picture you're painting! I'm going to have nightmares now! Fail until you succeed!

I agree with other posters that 4th Ave is a great place to find a wide variety of restaurants (between around 9th st and University, just north of downtown) and University (between Euclid and Park) has quite a few options too. Parking is easier on 4th than University, but I'm partial to some of the brew pubs on University (Gentle Bens and Frog&Firkin). I wouldn't really call either walkable, but if you're willing to walk up to 30 minutes then 4th Ave is walkable. The southern end is more bars (relive your college days!), restaurants are a little more north.
Street carts randomly across the city also have surprisingly good Carne Asada tacos and Sonoran hot dogs which are completely addictive and well worth trying! (Hot dogs wrapped in bacon and piled with mayo, mustard, beans, onions, and tomatoes.)
For those who are looking for non-fencing entertainment near the convention center, there's a complex a couple blocks north of the TCC called Old Town Artisans with lots of southwestern art and souvenirs. It's on Court Ave and has a restaurant and is pretty near El Charro which is a favorite Mexican restaurant on Church.
Saturday night (April 21) is the semi-annual club crawl which means there will be lots more people around (on Congress from 6th Ave east and on 4th Ave) and for 10$ you can get into most clubs and hear all kinds of semi-local bands. It will undoubtedly be the best night for any partiers. (It also may or may not mean some streets are restricted to complicate driving and parking on 4th ave will be more difficult than usual.) I think there are a couple little film festivals that weekend too but don't know much about them.
Again, if you are coming for more than one day I definitely believe you will be happier with a car! -

Array Do they still run the Street Car between the U of A and 4th Ave? If so it would be a fun form of alternative transportation! Anyway if you're in Tucson for the weekend I'll be the hairy looking guy hanging out with the real armorers running errands for them! Fail until you succeed!

Typo Confirmed We received a call back from USFA and she confirmed that the handbook sent to all NAC-F registered fencers had in-fact a typo and that the y10 fencers would be allowed to use either a "0" or a "2" blade. -

It is a rather huge area with very high ceilings. It can be closed off into three seperate sections and I don't know how many they have alotted to the NACs. When we had our trial tournament last September they laid out a portable basketball floor for us to set up strips on and none of the partitions were closed. We were almost lost in the volume of the area. I do not beleive there is going to be any problem with overcrowding! I do hope the concession stands are opened for snacks though. I guess that depends on how many people they expect.

I've never had a bad experience with any of the taco places. One of the more famous is El Guero Canelo which has a restaurant location on Oracle just north of Grant. The taco carts themselves are kind of random, not sure where to suggest since I don't think there are any right near the convention center.
I certainly hope concession stands are open, I don't even know where to point anyone to get coffee otherwise!
I walked by the Granada street underpass this evening and it's definitely under construction. The street was closed to cars but there was a sidewalk fully open so it might be ok to walk from the Riverpark Inn, but it also might be closed when they are actively working during the day. The street just north of Riverpark is totally torn up so I don't think that'll be the best way to get to Days Inn. Again, things may change and your milage may vary. Good luck and I hope you all have a good visit in Tucson! -
Still planning to run naked.... Maybe I'll do it in the venue...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Just kidding. I'm too aware of my shortcomings; I don't run fast!!!!
But seriously though. Does ANYONE have a list of vendors who are going to be there?

Array Send email to Christine Simmons.
You will get an autoreply that she is traveling to Tucson. You often do get a reply from her though.
But, why not just be surprised? -

Array Well tomorrow I begin my stint as volunteer labor. Our coach has cancelled class and we are all supposed to show up at the TCC to set up for Friday.
Azfencer: Stop by the armory booth to say hi if you are there this weekend. I am curious as to who you are. I gather you don't fence at AFA. Just ask for George. (Please, no Curious George jokes!!!!! ) Fail until you succeed!

Isolated thunderstorms predicted for Saturday. I thought it never rained in Tucson. -
So who's getting in tonight? I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.

Whose room is the party going to be in? I'm a bringing serious amounts of boozage. It's going to be like Animal House meets Band Camp on American Pie.
Toga! Toga! Toga!!

Darn. I'd offer to host but I don't know who my roommate is yet or if they're ok with fatties. I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.
