Rent a car Folks, there is NOTHING downtown worth eating. Make sure you rent a car so that you can go somewhere and get decent food to eat. Very little traffic downtown on the weekends so staying further away and driving in makes sense.
If any of you rely heavily on vitamins and supplements I'd suggest arriving early and doing some shopping or bring yer own from home.
Downtown Tucson hasn't much to offer in the way of entertainment at all.
So I'm coming. I'm bringing enough booze to start a liquor store.
Fatfencer is coming!! Bring yer party hats. It's a 24 hr boozer marathon!!
Bwahahaha

binge drinking with FF, or... One thing not to miss if you have time: http://www.desertmuseum.org/
The desert is spectacular, and this place is well worth the visit. Not too far away from downtown Tucson, and April is not a bad time to visit. Make sure you see the hummingbird enclosure... -------------------

The desert museum is WONDERFUL!!! That's one of the reasons my husband and I are coughing up the bucks to accompany my daughter to this NAC (aside from the moral support!) -

'Hummingbird enclosure'!!!!! Let's all gather round and sing the words out of the dictionary!! I thought I was a nerd but academe has me beat. BWAHAHAHAHA!!
I say us old folks all stay at the hotel and watch Dune, and spike the youngsters energy drinks with Lunesta!!! We'll be really fast then....comparatively!

(The above must be done with faux Asian accent and whilst grabbing corners of eyes and pulling back and sticking out upper teeth.)
PS: Besides, you'd binge drink too if you saw the lesson I just took tonite. I made my coach look great! Quadraplegics have better footwork than I do. I fenced with Stephen Hawking and lost 15-0.

Array Why didn't you fence like that at the NAC qualifiers then!
While downtown proper doesn't have a lot to offer, it is just a short stroll over to 4th Avenue (to the north of downtown) for an adequate supply of resturants and night life. Club Congress also has some interesting Musical offerings from time to time.
I also highly recommend the Desert Museum but Fatfencer can always go to "Old Tucson". That would probably more than enough of an intellectual challenge for him! Fail until you succeed!

But I doubt fatfencer fenced very hard in an SYC or RYC. -

I'll be by myself, won't have a car, and don't particularly want to eat Subway for dinner on Friday night. O, when she's angry, she is keen and shrewd!

The Star marks the approximate location of Club Congress which might be a good place for the 20-somethings amongst you. To the north of that is Fourth Avenue. It is the location of a lot of popular college bars and a few quieter places. There are also several good resturants along that stretch. It is probably about 3/4 to 1 mile from the TCC (rough guess, I've never walked it). It is also probably a minimum cab fare from wherever you are staying. Fail until you succeed!

Too bad there are no directions sites, such as Mapquest or Yahoo, that give walking directions and time estimates. -

Click on the "walking" tab vs the "driving" tab and notice the directions, distances and times change. -
Typo in Athlete Handbook? Can anyone confirm whether there is a typo on page 3 of the athlete handbook they emailed everyone? It states that all Y10 fencers must use a "0" blade only! Every other reference I've found always states that Y10 fencers can use either a "0" or a "2". Needless to say we're in a bit of a panic this close to the competition and are thinking we've got to go purchase all new weapons. Thanks for the help everyone.... -

Yeah I think I'll be reinacting that at the hotel. Anyone dare me? If there's free equipment involved I'll DEFINATELY do it.BWAHAHAHAAH. Just kidding.
