Array New Sports Scholarships Scheme at The University of Liverpool Hello everyone,
I was not sure if this would be the appropriate place to put this information in the forum, so I apologize if it isn't (and would be appreciative if I can be told where it would be best to place this notice) .
----------------------------------------------------
The University of Liverpool, through its new department 'Sport Liverpool', has recently launched a new initiative (well, new to the university) to improve the performance of its athletic programmes. Part of this initiative is the creation of niche sports (in much the same way as Loughborough, Birmingham, and Bath have, to name a few), as well as offering a number of sports scholarships to select student-athletes.
Having had a long discussion with the Athletic Union Director, I've been told there will be quite a few scholarships on offer, and fencers are more than welcome to apply.
For information on the scholarships, application process and the like, visit: http://www.liv.ac.uk/sports/scholarships/

Array Might have more luck with this one on FencingForum. Considerably higher percentage of the reading population is from the UK over there.
Overseas tuition at Liverpool for undergrads ranges from £ 8,700 to £17,300. Grad school tuition £8,350 to £13,500. All figures per year.
For an elite-level (senior national team) athlete, the scholarship is £2,000/year.
That's a nice bonus for someone already thinking about or planning to go to Liverpool, but hardly enough to convince someone not in that situation to come over.
Compared to the £3,000 tuition for EU residents (undergrad), it's quite a nice scholarship.

Array Thanks for the suggestion, oiuyt
I've also placed it on the british forum this morning.
I put it here because this forum has a very high volume of transit from fencers from pretty much all corners of the globe, so it gives an extra place for people to find the information. Quite a few EU fencers also frequent this forum. (the proverbial 'trying to have all the bases covered'). Array Very quick update:
Having just e-mailed our Athletic Union Director, he's informed me that EU students coming to study in the UK under the Erasmus Programme, as well as other similar programmes (I believe the Dutch have an exchange programme similar to Erasmus) are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
Postgraduates are also eligible (the UK Sports system is a bit different than the one in the US).
However, interested students should contact the Sports Department as soon as possible. Liverpool University Fencing Club - Best Club - 2006 UoL Athletic Union! www.liverpool-fencing.com
