I parry your arguments and riposte with a direct thrust of logic!

(Actually, I have nothing. I just figured I could use those words in a sentence.)

    Sorry, couldn't resist that one.

    I like this :

One could look at the sport from the point of view that where once fencing was used as self defense, and now duelling is no longer used to shelll out justice, all the weapons used in the sport are non-fatal and blunted, akin to safe, 'training' instruments. Therefore, from one point of view, sabre, on the surface, reflects best how a sword (as traditionally viewed)would have been - with a point and cutting edge. Foil is, and always was, a training weapon; but epee is said to be the modern derivative of the original duelling sword, the rapier - yet you are not allowed to use 'cutting' attacks. It is best, if one wishes to emulate classic swordmanship, to be able to use both blade and tip, so one could actually see the value of learning techniques with all three types of weapon.

Before I get screamed at for mentioning the positives of other weapons, I have only trained, albeit by default, with sabre so far, and enjoy the weapon very much.
    Good post...but we're still better

lol I lack any subsequent knowledge to counter that, not that I have much reason to. The sabre has been proved mightier than the pen..er keyboard..

I have fenced a bit of foil and two epee bouts so I can say sabre is better

The sabre is mightier than all.

Hah... see my school's mascot is a sabre... which means we're obviously the best. We're considering having a member of the men's/women's sabre team fence various teachers/administrators. Like our Dean Of Students. Hes a scary guy.

I could see the idea of hitting him with a sabre being quite appealing to the student body. It could be right up there with pie throwing.

Wow! That's excellent! Our mascot is a wolf. How imaginative is that? But a sabre, however: it's like going to school in heaven.

All we can get our administrators can do is play basketball. Although it's funny to watch them play because they all have beer guts and can't run very fast. You should totally fence the dean... he probably deserves to be smacked a few times.

    You have no idea.

But I probably shouldn't be the one fencing him. I think I've mentioned this before elsewhere but I have a bit of a temper when it comes to sabre.

I got poked (yes poked) in the neck by one of my teammates accidentally. It made me mad though so I guess my next attack "missed" his mask and landed hard on his shoulder... oops!

And then when I was with my team at state the Men's sabre captain, a friend of mine, showed me a welt he had going up his left arm from about his wrist to his elbow. I was horrified at how bad it looked and thought he just got it in a recent bout. He said no, apparently I got mad at him at practice earlier that week... big oops!

In epee -- SHUT UP -- I made sparks fly, and broke both my weapon and my opponent's at the same time.

It's what happens when both fencers take incredibly strong, but opposite parries at the same time.

    Think Newton's laws!

    I expect wise-a** remarks now.
No one cares how long your epee is, and if it breaks you just get a new one.

In epee you say...? So in between the jumping back and forth for 9 minutes you guys do stuff? I never noticed because I always got bored and left.

Yeah it happened to me with the same guy twice. Our blades hit really hard and there was a little bit of spliding and then I saw a little spark. It was cool.

That's awesome! I would have paid to see that. You broke both weapons? What, did you try to box him?

Not necessarily boxing, but when you're in a DE in the quarterfinals and you really, really want to proceed to the next round, your adrenaline is basically an explosive component now.

Yes, I can admit that SOMETIMES epee might seem slow and lethargic, but just like in any sport, when adrenaline comes in, crazy things happen.

Good, good! You're learning well! Now we need to get any ideas that promote epee out of your head.

I know - sometimes they get crazy! I feel vulnerable without a lame.

Epeeists are smart enough to wait until the practitioners of the less perfect weapons leave before we carry out our plans. Oops, I can't talk about our plans.

Well, that's great. Then you can carry out your plans once we leave you in your padded room, that's pretty private, isn't it? No other epeeists around, eh?

Aha! You have failed to notice the false wall in the padded room that leads to the secret underground lair of the epeeists. It is here that we lay in wait for the day that we overtake the inferior weapons!
