    Oops, Duh, Wah

Oops! After a particularly bad fencing (personally) day at the veteran's event in Atlanta this weekend, I destroyed the best uniform I ever had. Please, please, don't ever do this. God, I should have known better.

Duh! After the competition, I went back to the Super 8 to change and pack my gear. My stuff was so wet that I had the bright idea of asking the hotel to dry it for me so that I would not have to pack wet stuff. My new Negrini FIE uniform and two triplette underarm protectors were destroyed, melted, ruined.

I had a bad feeling that my instructions would not be followed if I did not get to talk to the person that did the work myself or have them let me do the drying. I should have listened to myself. Wah!!
I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess.

I would liked to have checked out the Absolute FIE uniforms this weekend, but of course, I already had a great uniform. So has anybody seen, touched, or felt one of these uniforms? If you know anything about (I already checked to see if there was a product review) them or the material there made of, please post.
I really think they did good job with their non-FIE stretch uniform and am hoping for an even better uniform in the FIE range.

That's really a shame, Joe. Melted? Did they use the hottest setting on the dryer?

I bought the Absolute women's FIE jacket over a year ago and the knickers in Richmond. They feel wonderful and I can move easily in them. YMMV but I'm quite happy with them.

If there were care instructions on the uniforms and they failed to follow them you may have grounds to sue. Even if you don't think it is worth the effort I would think that some angry phone calls/letters to the top people at the hotel might get something done.

    Melted?
What are these uniforms made from?

Various synthetic fibers. Dyneema is the most popular one right now I believe.

Well the problem was that I was not allowed into the laundry. My gear and instructions were "handed off". It may be that there is a hotter setting on the hotel dryers. Certainly the dryers were capable of greater heat than the one we have at home. I would would like to blame someone, anyone else, for the problem, but in truth, I own this one. Note to self: When sirens and red lights go off in your head, pull over.

Thank you Linda. I'm not good with the abbreviations yet, what does "YMMV" stand for?

The Negrini uniform while ruined, did not fuse into a hard ball of plastic like the underarm protectors from Triplette. I very much liked both, and have no complaints about either. They were designed to protect against puncture not a super-nova.

Sorry. It stands for Your Mileage May Vary.

It became common usage in parts of the web I frequent as a standard disclaimer. It works for me; there's no guarantee it will work as well for you.

The Triplettes may have been closer to nylon that the Negrini.

Joe - I'm happy to hear that you don't blame your "particular bad fencing day" on your referee...

I have an Absolute FIE fencing jacket. For the price goes, I recommend them. Not as stretchy as the top of the line Allstar, but it does have some give. Amanda told me that a lot of epeeist all over (she mention France, but I don't know first hand if that's true) like them because they are thick and can absorb the hit better. When you pick them up, they are heavier, but when you wear them, I can't feel the weight difference.

Sorry to hear about your uniform, that really sucks.

The material in the Absolute's looks to be pretty much the same as the Negrini

I saw the Absolute FIE Jacket today. It feels kinda heavy, and stiff, but sure it does have good protection.

    Joe,
As you were probably still hung over from our wild night out w/ those cheerleaders at the Hard Rock Cafe, I think a judge would be willing to throw out your previous self-incriminating statements about the laundry damage.
I've re-read your post and for the life of me, I can't understand how you implicate yourself in your uniformicide. You 'gave instructions' that weren’t followed? How is that your fault? Why is it your job to go behind the counter, into the laundry room, find the operator and give instructions? (Do you know that the hotel even has a laundry on the premises? Where I live I understand a lot of them sub all laundry out)
As Kramer once said about the Post Office: "They get to write it off!"
    Good luck

Jeff, I can be way to persuasive for my own. Take the cheerleaders for instance, I knew they could be convinced to overlook a 35 year difference in age. Yeah it was fun, but, I should not have done that! The reason the hotel did the drying for me against their rules and instructions was, I persuaded them. They did not have a laundry available for guests. Also, I couldn't see going after compensation, when it would get the person I persuaded, against their better judgement to break the rules, and possibly get them fired. There were enough street people and pahhandlers there already. I'll file that under: "To smart for my own good."
