| Had to put a heifer down today. A yearling. She had been having trouble breathing for the past week, losing weight, lethargic. We cut her from the herd and watched her. We ended up treating her with antibiotics, cuz it seemed like she wouldn't respond to our other treatments. since we're organic, if we treat a cow with antibiotics, we have to get rid of her, so it's a last resort option. we treated her with some draxxin. first time we've had to treat a cow in 12 years. She seemed to be getting worse so we got a backhoe in and dug a grave. Then she looked like she was improving, but yesterday we decided she wasn't gonna recover. so ya.
did an autopsy, turns out we think it was some sort of wierd cancer. about 40% of her lungs were shot to hell, blackish tumor type things. her windpipe had a lot of necrotic material in it. rotting from the inside. she was definitely a goner from the beginning.
i need a beer.
