I always qualify a sport by the fact that it has athletes.

A NASCAR driver is not an athlete, therefor it is not a sport. You can see something similar driving down the freeway as long as it has a prevalence of left hand turns. NASCAR is as much of a sport as playing a video game, or playing poker. Competition/=sport.

As far as actual sports go, baseball, golf. Both of those are something that are better for putting somebody to sleep than entertainment, and I'm firmly convinced that baseball would not exist without childhood brainwashing.

I think you're a little confused...Horse racing is only the sport of Dukes. Rooster fighting, however, is the sport of kings.

Ice skating. It seems more of an art, i.e. figure skating's twirly prettyness, than a sport. Unless you're Apolo Ohno, in which case that'd be speed skating and that is actually a sport.

FYI: I have the right to hate ice skating because I was forced to take lessons for two years and I never got anywhere with it.

It all comes down to how one defines a sport.


Racing with motorized vehicles is very much a sport. Try it sometime.
The pro-level drivers work much harder than the people you see trundling down the road. (Yes, this even includes NASCAR).

Curling is a sport, and a fun one at that.

Weightlifting is a sport. I don't think bodybuilding would fill that definition.

I have a friend who defines sport as being solely competitive. Basically, if it isn't a race, it's not a sport.


Anyway, back on topic.

Golf: Borderline sport. Very very boring.
Fishing: Not a sport. Period.
Video games: Not a sport.
Cards: Not a sport.
Darts: Not a sport
Billiards/SNooker/etc: Not a sport.

All of the above have something else in common: They are things that shouldn't be televised, IMHO. (Except possibly golf. Although I never watch it, I know some people who do. Dunno why, personally.)

Oh, I knew I had something else! The only thing I hate more than soccer:

Skateboarding. Xtreme sports make me want to vomit diahrrea (to the Xtreme!), and skateboarding is by far the worst of them all. Second only to surfing, maybe, if that's even a sport.
