| Uhlmann World Cup Vs. Olympia(or Negrini) For Epee? My coach will be starting me on epee soon. I have been using my Uhlmann non-FIE jacket for foil, and am planning on ordering either the Olympia or the World Cup jacket and knickers. Having searched the forums and read the reviews it appears many epeeists prefer the thicker World Cup jacket for its enhanced protection from bruises. However, the World Cup knickers have a seam on the legs which apparently can catch a tip?
Is the World Cup designed for Epee/Saber? and would it be better suited to epee than the Olympia or the Negrini kit, for that matter?
Thanks in advance for any input and recommendations.

That said, I recommend the Olympia kit (or any 'stretchy' kit, really) over the World Cup kit.
The so-called stretch-panels that the World Cup/Athen kit is just not praticularly stretchy, IMO. Stretch kits like Startex/World Cup will give you more flexibility and ability to move more 'freely'.
( My review on the 'World Cup' jacket can be found here, if you're interested.)
And do try to make a search in the Armoury Q&A section, I assure you kits have been thouroughly discussed here. Happy shopping!

Al | As far as the leg seam catching a tip, I really wouldnt worry about it.
I've got the uhlmann WC uniform, and I don't find it particularly constricting. It is however, very very warm.

| Again, don't worry about the WC seam. A non-issue.
Do worry about it's lack of stretch and the heat factor (pointed out above).
I train in one, but have a Negrini for comps. Much, much more comfortable. Buy that or spring for the Olympia.

| The leg seam is not an issue. The fact that the Uhlmann/Allstar WC are hot, uncomfortable (for me anyway) and as of recently not very well made, now those are issues. I would stay away from the Uhlmann gear until they get the bugs and the QC worked out of their Chinese assembly process. I think that the LP Atlanta?Sydney are the best on the market but they are damned expensive. The FWF gear is very good for the money and has some very nice features. It is effectively the old quality of Uhlmann with some new ideas thrown in. If you are on a budget I have been fairly impressed with the Absolute gear. It is no frills, but it is cheap and seems to be durable and well made, at least after the first few months of observation.
Also TCA, Duelist, Negrini, Estoc, Preiur, PBT all make decent to great kit depending on your budge and what you are looking for. Don't fall into the "everyone else has it and it was good a few years ago" trap of the Uhlmann kit. Try it on and if it fits great and you can get a deal, go for it but otherwise shop around. Least thats my advice...
