Each of the major indexes were off by more than 1 percent, including the Dow Jones industrial average, which fell nearly 200 points. |

And the DJIA fell more than 200 points, not nearly. |

| "might" should be "may". Can't be bothered actually looking in any more detail.

pre·cip·i·tous (prĭ-sĭp'ĭ-təs) pronunciation
adj.
1. Resembling a precipice; extremely steep. See synonyms at steep1.
2. Having several precipices: a precipitous bluff.
3. Usage Problem. Extremely rapid, hasty, or abrupt; precipitate: “The change has included a precipitous collapse of Communist authority” (New York Times). See Usage Note at precipitate.
| So in a sense he is saying that is it slowing rapidly. A bit redundant.

Someone needs their smoke break?
How does one douse an flameout with water anyway? By definition a flameout is already extinguished. And to throw water on something that looks like it's going to flameout would just cause the flameout you are seeking to avoid. |

| Jesse and Angie's story continues/starts Jan. 18.
Since we don't know if the story is continuing or starting, take your pick of which word you want to use.

| I think Jesse should also be possesive, as read there are 2 subjects, Jesse and the story (which is Angie's). The intent obviously being one subject, the story, which belongs to both Jesse and Angie.

| Yes, one possessive. I'm going to assume most of you aren't familiar with the All My Children duo, but it is their story, not just Angie's. What got me with the "continues starting." I know that what they were trying to say is the story continues on the the date given, but there were definitely better word choices, not to mention punctuation, that would have would have made the statement better.

| From a CNN.com article. Am I right about the error in this? I had to read it a few times just to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Now I have a headache from it. Paulson discussed the stimulus package with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, and House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, during a working breakfast on Capitol Hill to discuss details of the package.

It's a little redundant, don't you think? The sad part is, I've done this myself.
By the way, it's right, not write.
