Anyway, thanks for the grammar lesson. As a non-native english speaker/writer I think it's interesting to read your posts about peoples use and misuse of grammar and language.
I love doing the same in swedish, but then I actually know things, here I'm just trying to pick up knowledge. | FYI, Zilverzmurfen, I would NEVER make a disparaging remark about the English of a non-native speaker. I seriously doubt Inq would either. We all appreciate the contributions of non-native English speakers to this post. It is fun, however, to point out how uneducated the general population of the United States is. We just don't place a high priority on language here.
The college from which I graduated (you can probably guess which school that is based on my screen name) had (and has) a high percentage of international students. Curiously, the English spoken by our international students was OFTEN more correct that that spoken by the native students. The WRITTEN English of the international students was far superior. Go figure. |

| OK...here's a new one from MSNBC, quoting someone who is not only a communication professional, but from the UK!
“The comment made by the Prince of Wales appears to be an off-the-cuff remark that, in our opinion, does not reflect either our menu or where we are at as a business,” Nick Hindle, a spokesman for McDonald’s UK business, said in an e-mailed statement. |

Ugh.

| And since everyone else seems not only to be pointing out what is wrong with the sentence, but also how to correct it, here's a better way to attribute that quote:
“The comment made by the Prince of Wales appears to be an off-the-cuff remark that, in our opinion, does not reflect either our menu or where we are at as a business,” Nick Hindle, a spokesman for the UK branch of McDonald’s, said in an e-mailed statement.

James. | Well, good guess, but no. But aren't possessives of plurals and possessives of possessives interesting critters? |

| "Where we are at". And should be "which" instead of "that".

"McDonald's" is the name of the business and its business should properly be attributed to it. It is the only grammatical error published by MSNBC contained in the quote you posted.
Any text in the body of the quote, however poorly phrased, is correct because the text reflects the words as they were spoken/written (which is different then how they ought to have been spoken or written).
If you meant for us to analyse the quoted portion only, you should have been clear and posted only the text that you wanted analysed.
*grin*
James.

| Easy one... Adam "Pacman" Jones' attorney said the Tennessee Titans cornerback is "very frightened" as he waits possible trial for obstructing police in Georgia and as he waits for the fallout from an investigation into a triple shooting in Las Vegas during NBA All-Star weekend, USA Today reported Thursday. |

| I see no need to duplicate a post, but...
Like Goldgar said, wait should be await.
