Hi folks! I just joined after checking out the forum here. I've just started fencing in January and I'm nearing the end of my first class. I'm 52 and have never done any athletics before now. I started this to get into shape and have some fun. I'm realizing that it's a really great sport. We have a club nearby that has just moved into it's own space after many years of using space at a community center. They have 5 electrical strips and are really turning it into a nice facility.

This seems like a great resource and I expect to learn a lot here.

Thanks for the welcome, Coldfire. I checked out your blog. Looks like you've been doing pretty well for having been fencing only a couple of years. Gives me a bit of hope. Keep up the good work!

Welcome to the forum! And to fencing for that matter.

It's good that you seem to be enjoying the sport, and I hope that you come to enjoy f.net just as much.
If you don't stand behind our troops, please feel free to stand in front of them. Trust me, they'll appreciate it.

Thanks, Lemur! It's only been 2 months and I'm definitely seeing improvement in my stamina and reduction in my target area. These are all good things. My ladyfriend really enjoys hearing how pumped I am when I call her after a session of fencing. I can definitely see how this adrenaline thing can be habit-forming.

    Hello, and welcome!

    I'm Jeff, too. Muahaha!
No one cares how long your epee is, and if it breaks you just get a new one.

Thanks for the welcome, Jeff! It's great to be here. I'll tell you, it seems that the fencing fraternity is a very friendly one. I've already made several friends at my local club and everybody is very helpful. I'm definitely sticking with this in spite of the bruises and stiffness.

IMHO, the friendlist athletes, that I know of, are fencers.

Welcome to fencing, Irishfolker...I hope you continue to enjoy the sport the rest of your life. And for what it's worth, you're far from the oldest member of this board.
And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?
