As a US citizen who trains abroad I'm hoping to come home to the US this year. I've never fenced in the USA before, having been taught by an Eastern European coach in the UK.
I reached a fairly high level in the cadets (EPEE) in the UK and would like to continue my training to a high level in the USA.
What is the best training camp to attend? I realize this may be a contentious issue - hope it won't cause too many disagreements.
Look at the national point lists for Junior/Cadet in your weapon. Then, scan their clubs for summer camps or try to contact those fencers who you feel are at your level or a bit above.
My reason for asking here on the forum is because there are so many different clubs and fencers are listed in divisions rather than clubs. Plus if anyone's had any experience of good camps here on the forum it can't hurt to ask.
I went to the Brown Uni summer camp 3 years ago whilst I was still in the UK, and the competition was pretty intense. Nat Botwinick, Nick Mitros, Jessie Bisignano and a few other decent fencers were around.
On a random note, I also fell in love with the place itself, which is why I'm studying there now:P
Northwest Fencing Center in Portland, Oregon. Run by Michael Marx, Olympian in foil and epee. They offer week long camps during the summer which attract a pretty high level group.
I would say that for epee especially you can go to a lot of places and find good strong camps especially considering the background you're coming from (it's not too hard to provide a good match for a decent cadet epeeist)...any chance you want to give us an idea of what area of the ****ry you want to train in or a price range etc.?
I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.
"Martin was not an optimist; he was a prisoner of hope." Optimism is about assuming there's evidence that justifies your outlook while hope is about creating the evidence and procuring your own happiness or vision of the world. - Professor West
You might also take a look at Alliance Fencing Academy in Houston if you like to fence with the "A" team. They will run summer camps before summer nationals and then they take off to Russia for a conditioning camp.

The National women's epee team coach, Kornel Udvarhelyi, did a week-long camp last Summer at Mission Fencing Center on Long Island (with Brendan Baby).
I know a few people who went through it who said that it was a phenomenal experience. I know that Mission will be running high-level camps again this Summer, but if you want to know who the coaches are, you should email the club.
