Array Practice exam non-combactivity questions Can someone please point me towards the section of the rules that addresses the questions I'm finding in practice exam 96, 98, 100, and 101?
I'm going through last year's exam and this year's exam and updating my study cards (yes, I know, but it helps me since I so seldom direct outside of club practice and I fence sabre, so I neer see people not actively trying to score).
I figure the answer to 96 (During a pool bout, the fencers are not actively attempting to score, the Referee should is either b. (call "Halt and warn the fencers) or c (Call Halt! If the score is not tied, the bout ends at the current score. If the score is tied, determine priority and fence either to 5 touches for one fencer or one full minute. If the score is still tied at the end of that minute, the fencer with priority wins the bout.
I suspect the answer is C but I've read through the rules a few times and I am not finding a definitive answer. Page 81 leads me to suspect it's C but I'm uncertain.
I note that 98 is the same question except it refers to the first encounter of a Youth 10 or Youth 12 direct elimination bout. 100 makes it a second period and veterans.
No, I do not know anyone locally whom I can ask. If I did, I would not be asking here, where I know such questions are asked over and over and over again. -
non combativity is only in DE bouts of 10 and 15 touches. there is NO NC in pools or if the bout is best 2 of 3 5 touch bouts. Go to the well until the well is dry. When the well is dry find a new well. -

Array Be sure to download the latest version of the Rule Book. There are several significant differences since the last edition (enough that you would fail the new written test even if you completely memorized the last edition). When you have three Romulan Warbirds blocking the escape route, Worf has an emotional breakdown about his childhood toy, Riker announces he's gay, Data's positronic brain gets a virus, and Geordi quits because he's had just one too many imminent warp core breach.... Just sit back, breathe, and follow these simple steps: -

Array Certified Referee Examiners and Certified Referee Instructors were given up-to-date materials which reflect the latest Rule Book revision. Very first page of the test booklet should indicate "November 2006" on it. Study Guide should also indicate "November 2006," otherwise you are preparing for a wrong test. Likewise, the Rule Book you study from and refer to should also indicate "September 2006 Edition."
Doesn't hurt to double check with your Examiner that they're, in fact, using the latest materials. Array updating Why doesn't the USFA issue a summary of rule changes?
The rules are bad enough when contested by obfuscatory hair splitters, why not make the updates to the existing rules as clear as possible? If they do and I missed it, my apologies and please direct me. -
i forgot to say... GOOD LUCK!
btw, excellent advice on up to date study materials. i was studying the 05 edition and if the folks at the seminar hadn't been as helpful as they were about pointing out the differences, i'm sure i couldn't have passed (since i barely did). -
