So many answers. I will deal with traditional lame'

1) Friction breaking wires.
2) Corrosion.
3) Folding breaking wires.
4) Sizing not removed.
5) Missing wires.
6) Soap as in not rinsing enough
7) Spills

Is there any way to remove a dead spot?
Or do you just need to buy a new lame.

There are many ways to fix a lame'. Depending on the size and the reason you might use different methods.

There are metal threads, liquid metal (expensive), place a patch over the dead spot. These are for broken wires.

For corosion, sizing, spill, soap you can clean.

Purple Fencer has a good article on cleaning on his web site.

Important make sure rinse, rinse, rinse.

For "It's a few ohms high at equipment check" there's also a wire brush, but for a "dead spot" you'll want a real solution.

We can put a new front panel on the lame for 60.00 and make it like a brand new lame. We have done this several time now for fencers that like the fit of there old lame
