Array And thus spoke Greg D. For the information of those who may not know it, Greg is a 1 in foil and that is as good as it gets for US ratings. In short if god were refereeing, he would look nervous if Greg D was his examiner... Thanks for weighing in Greg! Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

Again, why the user info displayed on posts needs to display FOC information of significance. Although I did get that idea from his post. -

If you had instead said "He did make A's attack fail. A lunged, fell short, he prefers apples to oranges, end of attack, not enough time to establish PiL."
I would have an issue with the reference to fruit being part of the discussion. Doesn't mean the rest isn't correct. It's just not relevant. And adds confusion. In your case it's worse than in mine, as nearly everyone will dismiss my version as a red herring. Yours might actually fool some people into thinking it's a significant part of the statement.

I understand what you are saying with that, but if you just go by FOC information, you may discredit someone who is in fact very knowledgeable. There is a referee in my division that is very, very knowledgeable. In fact, he is one of the few referees in my area that I will not argue with. I may ask "No X sir?" and if he says no, I believe him. However, he like myself, happens to be color blind. That means that we can't tell on from off on the Fing SG POS boxes they use at NACs and so we don't referee there, and therefore are probably not ever going to get very high with our FOC ratings. At least until the USFA switches to a decent box with 4 real banks of lights...
Just one example of how a low/no FOC rating does not invalidate ones opinion. And then there are people that would just lie about their rating in that section. As with most things on the net, you have to know enough to be able to tell is someone is full of it to begin with and that can be hard... Are you completely colorblind, or just red/green, like me? I can tell the difference in the green/yellow lights if I look hard. -

I know that, but certainly a high rated FOC official should have some indication of that. The big idea passed around is to have that indicated under the name where it says "member" or "senior member" or whatever. This would be set by Craig or another mod. This is obviously a foil question (although not explicitly) and that concept is not as strictly enforced (although it does still exist in the rulebook). -

I know that the bottom on an off target is supposed to be brighter, and I can sometimes tell if I am paying close attention and in front of the box, but if I am at the end of the piste and following the action, then just glance up at the lights to confirm the hits, I tend to miss them or not be able to tell. I really hate those boxes... Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!

I know that Oiuyt and a few other people have that, but I have no idea how/who Craig sets or the criteria. I get the impression that there are a lot of folks on the board that "could" have the title of referee, fencing expert, armourer, whatever but Craig is a little busy to follow up and fact check for all but a few people. I think that would almost be a full time job as you would have to fact check whatever data someone submitted. It would be nice though. Us old timers tend to know eat other more or less but it would be good for the newbies. Just another lost soul saved by the (hit) First Church of EPEE!
