| Epee/Foil coach position An associate of mine is looking for a coaching position, and I hope I am not out-of-line in posting here.
He is a former Cuban national team member, was National champion in foil and then went on to be part of their epee team which was dominant in the 1990’s (he placed as high as 3rd in an individual world cup).
Needless to say, he has some serious background and have significant coaching experience. He would like to move out of the New York area (because of the high cost of living) and is seeking a coaching position in other parts of the US.
In addition to his fencing experience and skill, I got the sense that he could bring a lot to bear in terms of conditioning and some of the drills that the Cuban’s employ. These would obviously be of benefit to fencers in all weapons.
Let me know if there is any interest and I can hook you up directly with him.
Thanks,
Rick

| I'd KILL to get him as one of the coaches for my HS kids, and I'm sure he could find work in NJ at one or more of the various clubs around. Shoot me a PM with his details.

| Rick, you wouldn't by any chance be talking about Leif, would you?
If so, I can definitely attest to his skill and experience. Let me know where he ends up. Might just make a trip or two just to fence and learn from him. |

| What state does he want to move to? Does he want to step into an existing student base or does we want to build up a club? Have him contact the clubs in the area he wants to re-locate to. I'm sure that many of the clubs would love to have him. |

Yes, Arne (if MM is interested have him contact me, but Philly is not that inexpensive anymore and you guys are pretty heavy on coaches already).
He is currently coaching some in NJ and lives in NY. Obviously, these are expensive areas - and he is interested in other parts of the country for that reason.
He has no preference as to where - but I see him fitting in well into an area that has some "vibe/life" to it. My guess is a college area/position or minor metro area with a strong local established fencing community would be ideal.
I'll get more details on background and requirements for those that are interested. He promised to but something together for me to circulate to interested parties.
RITFencing - I'll PM you.
Thanks,
Rick

I believe the USFCA also tracks "position wanted" type postings, although you would have to check with them to confirm (and it may require USFCA membership).

| Well there's certainly a dearth of coaching in the Santa Cruz/Monterey, CA area but I'm not sure it's very good on the reduced cost of living and I think it would be difficult to get any sort of secure position... There are a number of different places/target groups with small budgets... |

| How About Wilmington, NC? I was down at CFFA this weekend and I know that those folks would LOVE to have a professional coach around the area. Wilmington, NC definitely fits the description and then some:
Lower cost of living
Established fencing community (two clubs)
Great night life
Great weather
The beach!!! http://www.cape-fear.nc.us/
It would not be a salaried position, however; he would have to earn his own money through coaching. Think of the advantages though...
Regardless of where he goes, I'm sure he would be able to find a place to work out of. I wish we could bring him to our area but it's just too sleepy around here to suit most people younger than oh, say, 75!
