    Random question:

I'm looking at Ask Fred and I come across this http://askfred.net/Results/results.php?tournament_id=2563. It left me wondering: how good is Cam Perry these days? I figure he's still significantly above average especially for a field of club teams but I know he also took a lot time off too....
I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.

I've been looking at this tournament and can't quite figure out what format they used.

How do you do pools in a team tournament? It looks as if they fenced to 8, but with a time limit that commonly expired. How many members of the team fence in the pool bouts?

Also, for the DEs the results show the teams fencing to 5. Did they just adjust the scores?

I thought team tournaments were run with the 45 touch, rally type of scoring.
    Just push the button!

Looking at the numbers, here's my guess about the format.

Pool rounds were fenced as single-squad dual meets of 9 bouts (3 fencers per team, each fencing each opposing fencers). All pool matches total 9 bouts.

DE's look like the same, but with the match ended as soon as one team scored 5 victories.

If I watched foilists more than desultorily in between sabre bouts I could probably tell you.

But seriously...define "time off". Does it mean "not fencing at all", or just "not fencing in the company of equals"? Because AFAIK he has been fencing off and on at a couple of clubs I know for the past couple of years...

You are correct, this has been the format since the inception of the event. As we have teams traveling across the country we feel this gives a good amount of fencing. What happened to Temple's club this year?

Go to the well until the well is dry. When the well is dry find a new well.

I'll answer off-line. Nothing horrible, but the trip ended up not working out for them.
