I don't want this to get overlooked deep in the JO thread, so I'm posting it a second time on its own.
This has got to be a royal screw up of communications somewhere.
Got an email today from an Ashley Razo, "USFA National Events Coordinator", with information on the JOs, and the days and check-in times are dramatically different from what's still posted on the USFA Web site! Only Men's Epee seems to be unchanged.
The Women's events are completely hosed; all on new days!!
- Junior Men's Foil is from 7-8 am Friday; 5 1/2 hours earlier than the web site time.
- Cadet Men's Foil is from 8-9 am Sunday; 1 hour later
- Cadet Men's Sabre is 9:30-10:30 am Friday; 2 1/2 hours later
- Junior Men's Saber is 1-2 pm Sunday; 1 hour later
- Junior Women's Epee is 12-1 pm on Friday; a different day!
- Cadet Women's Epee is 10:30-11:30 am Sunday; a different day!
- Junior Women's Foil is 12-1 pm Saturday; a different day!
- Cadet Women's Foil is 11:30 am-12:30 pm Monday; a different day!
- Junior Women's Sabre is 7-8 am Monday; a different day!
- Cadet Women's Sabre is 9:30-10:30 am Saturday; a different day!
(I think I've transcribed all this correctly. Apologies if not.)
"Note: The tournament confirmation materials contain the only official schedule. In the case of any discrepancy between the confirmation materials and the website, the schedule in the confirmation materials will prevail."
The website schedule is consistent with the confirmation materials schedule.
As far as I can tell, there has not been a mass email sent to the entrants telling them otherwise, so I've got to believe that the original schedule is still in effect.
Maybe Ashley Razo's email was regarding the 2008 JOs (you know, getting the schedule out early) or possibly was meant for the Special Olympics, not Junior Olympics.

Below is the email I received in its entirety; mailed to a collective email address "USFENCING@USFencing.org". It included three attachements: JO_CloseofReg.doc

I just got the email too. This is crazy. "1674 individual athletes" probably represents over 2000 already booked plane reservations when you count parents. Fortunately this will be only a minor disruption for our family, but I know others who may cancel their trip if this schedule holds.
Tommorrow morning the sh*t is going to hit the fan.
Further confusing matters, in the USFA email two attachments give conflicting information. the "JO_Athlete_Information_Packet.pdf" re-states the old schedule and the "JOs_CloseofReg.doc" states the new one. I think its safe to say that there will be a few problems.
If this is true, I know a couple of people who are going to be VERY upset. =(
"When your opponent fears you, then's the moment when you give the fear its own rein, give it the time to work on him. Let it become terror. The terrified man fights himself. Eventually he attacks in desperation. That is the most dangerous moment, but the terrified man can be trusted usually to make a fatal mistake. You are being trained here to detect these mistakes and use them." -Frank Herbert, Dune
I looked at the two different schedules side by side, and I think the main difference is that for several weapons the Junior and Cadet were switched. That is an easy mistake to make, if you don't know the difference between a 15 year old and a 19 year old, say. Does Ashley Razo know that there is a difference?
I believe Ashley is the very nice young lady who has been trailing Christine the last several tournaments. She is very helpful, works hard, and is learning. Anyone who tries to follow Christine around would be exhausted. Christine quite obviously needed some more help, and Ashley is that help I believe.
