    Trimming Bush?

I was wondering has anyone any news on President Bush's assasination attempts? I'm not particularly news savvy, but my friends ( also equally ignorant of current events) and I realized that there's been no big news of any attempts to sabotage the president's campaigns/plans/machinations, etc. Does anyone find it surprising that there has been no reported assasination attempts? Because according to most polls, Bush has fallen quite out of favor from the public for some time now....has he had any close-shaves lately?

I'd just like to say "hi" to the friendly people at the NSA who are taking time out of their busy day to stop by.

    Brilliant post.

Here's a little story, and a true one, I assure you. You might like it. I found it very entertaining.

Some pinhead (literally...his avatar was a picture of himself with a head full of piercings!), anyways, he decides to start a flame war on a message forum I visit that's frequented by some alumni of several military special operations groups. Pinhead starts to mouth off and eventually says the wrong thing to the wrong people (kind of along the lines of what someone around here likes to spout off about the military sometimes...I think the terms "murderers and baby killers" were used once or twice). Unfortunately for pinhead, the group over there wasn't as civil as we are over here with respect to such statements.

First, pinhead's IP address, service provider and reverse DNS information shows up. Turns out that the ex military guys offended ran the website. But, pinhead is unphased, keeps mouthing off. Next thing you know, a google map to the the pinhead's apartment shows up on the thread. The pinhead starts to scream take it down. Shortly after, a picture of the pinhead's apartment building shows up. Turns out someone he pissed off either actually lived near him or had a buddy that did. Pinhead apologises profusely, then goes dark. The map and pictures remain. This was in the So Cal area....very high ex military population.

Moral of the story....you're not as anonymous as you might think. Smarten up.

I don't think the OP is considering, or even advocating, doing any harm to anyone. It's probably just an innocent question.

But it says LOADS about the OP that they think a lack of assassination attempts is surprising when a president is perceived to be unpopular.

May I remind the OP that Americans prefer their revolutions bloodless, usually at regularly-scheduled intervals of four years or thereabouts. Unpopular does not mean assassination, it means elect someone else. In extreme cases, it means impeachment.

Assassination attempts on presidents are usually not made because the president is unpopular. Reagan's shooter was trying to impress a girl. Ford's shooter was trying to impress a cult leader. JFK's shooter was... who knows, but JFK certainly wasn't unpopular. William McKinley was killed by an anarchist who was trying to eliminate government itself, as opposed to any dislike of the president himself. Garfield was killed in a personal vendetta by a campaign worker who thought he deserved an ambassadorial appointment. Lincoln was killed by a confederate sympathizer, who had previously plotted to kidnap the president to ransom southern prisoners of war, who was angered by the South's recent capitulation and Lincoln's intent to give former slaves the vote.

It really is appalling that someone could think it surprising that people haven't tried to kill the president, merely because he's not liked. For shame.

I think everyone realizes that Cheney is far more evil. That's a great way not to get assasinated: Have a VP that's even worse than you are.

    Slim

Maybe it's because I was brought up in an academic atmosphere, but I live in environment where nothing is off limits. Not even free speech. That being said, my question was not disrespectful. I highly doubt anyone will try to interfere with my life simply because I asked about whether or not the president has suffered any assasination attempts.

I couldnt agree more. I'm waiting for a photograph of some of our fencing friends to appear on the net taking an after fencing shower. Well, I realize that I too have been a 'target' [no pun intended] I've had interesting conversations with people from the buses and stores and whatnot, but after a while, we can see that most people are merely fellow writers and chatterers like myself who muse about topical topics and not reallly expecting that some high end military swat team will be using this particular board to launch world affairs from. I mean, they do actually have think tanks, they do actually hire people who work from dawn till dusk working out political strategies and whatnot, so why on earth would anyone be bothered reading off this board to like, rule the world? It doesn't make sense - only a handful of fencers, and retiree fencers bother to write. It's silly???
