| If Nike has a commercial with Fencing in it, does that mean they're going to start production of fencing shoes? What are they going to call it... Air Cliff? |

in Burbank, CA. The guy doing the tackling was one of the stage combat
crew, and the one being tackled was Tim Weske, the salle's owner. I think
they said they actually shot enough footage for a full commercial on it's
own. I wasn't there the night of the shoot, but I understand it wasn't all
shots of Brian tackling Tim...althoguh they shot it about 30 times!
Actually, although we may not think much of that one second as far as actual
fencing's concerned (the IBM commercial form the '96 Olympics was better
from an action standpoint), it DID fit the tenor of the ad.

I saw that commercial during the Super Bowl. Call me crazy.. I sat through the whole Super Bowl for the commercials. But I still missed the Tomb Raider one.
And I remember one from the Sydney Olympics. They had a lot of commercials which were basically profiles of some of the unique athletes in the Olympics, and one of them was about a fencer from Harlem. They still have the ad on adcritic.com. | |

| That would be Akhnaten Spencer-El from the Westbrook Foundation.
We're starting to get more coverage, but it's be nice if it showed more of the sport. |

| Nike is not,to my knowledge, making fencing shoes. Too small a market, although it wouldn't be hard to improve on the Adidas designs. Because of internet sales and reaching a niche market, they have been thinking of designing one, but have not.
The commercial was aimed to appeal to women, and broaden the concept of the stereotypical athlete. The little girl fencing was wearing cross-trainers.
You can check out Nikebiz.com and read about the ad campaign. |

| Haven't seen the commercial, but think that we may have finally broken a barrier. Everyone needs to contact Nike and tell them how much they appreciate the inclusion of fencing into the commercial. I've always thought that it would lend itself to the intense, extreme, fast action aspect that has been the trend in sports equipment commercials.
Hey Purple, aka Sam, How did all that come down? Did Tim contact Nike or the other way around? Do you think that there may be other opportunities?

It was Reebok ( but that's picky). I don't know how he got it, but he DOES do a lot of stage combat for the film industry, so it could've been any one of his contacts from past shoots.

| I saw the commercial from Nike. Fencing had but one to one point five seconds on there. And then they showed the little girl's shoes. I thought the intro to the HBO show Arli$$ had a better showing of fencers than that commercial. |

Yeah, there was a commercial by a financial institution with two foil fencers... one of them had a french grip (shown dramatically hitting the ground after a touche). |

| The media is really nuts. did you see the photograph of the french female epeeist, wrapped in foil? I think they sort of missed the pun, but the media is into exploitation. How would you present an epeeist in media that would be THOUGHT provoking? First: what does Epee mean. Let's start there, then develop a theme. |

#18 | | Guest | Hmm. I haven't checked for the other ads, but the Harlem Fencer commercial for the IBM sponsorship of the Sydney Olympics is on adcritic.com. BTW, in the previous post, the link doesn't work because there's a comma in the link address. The site isn't down or anything. Just click www.adcritic.com

| Just found out that the little girl in the Nike commercial is the daughter of the owner of my salle!
Everyone else who was at the shoot KNEW all they woudl get out of it (besides a SAG card) was a paird of shoes, since the cameras spent so much time on the kid.
