| You mean actors in movies?
That would have to be Alan Rickman. He stole the show in Robin Hood (the Kevin Costner version). I liked him in Die Hard too. His evil-ness seemed more cerebral than sadistic. Even though he technically wasn't a bad guy in Dogma, he was a hoot as a heavenly being with an attitude. |

| Magwa or however you spell his name. The Bad *** Indian in the movie "Last of the Mohigans". I thought his was only realistic character in the film. Great duel scene at the end. And what woderful period weapons.....

| It could also have been books. But I'd have to say obviously no-one personal to you.
I've had to think about this one. My personal favourite bad guy is the Alien from all the Aien movies. Scares the hell out of me (only movie fiend to give me nightmares!). |

| Hi nice thread!
My #1 bad guy is Darth Moll in the last Star Wars movie...his face looks like a burned pizza with peperoni but his fighting style is super cool!

| Gotta go with the Evil Genius (John Warner) from Time Bandits.
"Benson, you are so mercifully untouched by the ravages of intellect."
"Oh, thank you master!"
Second place goes to the Daleks-- they're so straightforward about what they want, and the concept of a bunch of overgrown, ray-gun toting traffic cones with limited mobility and range of vision and nothing but a toilet plunger for dexterity thinking they're the supreme beings in the universe is a great analogy for the sort of pathetic losers you usually see populating racist hate groups.
On a more serious level, Klaus Kinski's Aguirre (from the Werner Herzog film of the same name) rates an honorable mention-- a great portrait of an obsessive, megalomaniacal madman leading his followers to their doom (it helped in the portrayal that Kinski himself could be quite obsessive and megalomaniacal in real life ).

| As far as bad guys go I can't say Darth Mall was particularly evil. He didn't do much except bear his teeth, fight, and get cut in half. He didn't really display his evil by doing nasty things like murdering innocents, torturing anybody or trying to take over the galaxy.
I will agree that Alien is a wonderful bad guy, very freaky.
Actually tough, I kinda like Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. I always thought she was a good powerful evil character. If not her than Gendo Ikari from the Japanese animated TV series Evangelion. He is definately an evil bastard.

| To include bad guys in books and other media--Hannibal Lector is my current favorite. The new Hannibal book is a good read. It was surprisingly funny, in a dark and twisted kind of way. |

EXTERMINATE!
The Daleks have to be the perfect bad guy. They used to scare me stupid when I was younger.

| Haven't visited this thread for a while so thought I would have a look.
There's some great bad guy's here. I had forgotten about Evil from Time Bandits.
The Cybermen always scared me more than the daleks though. All that faceless chrome... makes me shiver.
I always preferred the portrayal of Hannibal in Manhunter to the one in Silence of the Lambs. |

| I'll second Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes, but my own choice is Windom Earle from the Twin Peaks series. A classic chess-playing evil genius - he kills off his opponent's aquaintances as he loses pieces, enslaves the local drug dealer, bludgeons people with antique Japanese flutes, seeks supernatural power in the Black Lodge, etc etc. (If anyone has 24 hours on their hands, head to the video store and rent the entire series.)

| I'd have to say Admiral Thrawn from the Thrawn series by Timothy Zahn. "But, it was so artistically done." I give it to him for the most perfect line I've ever seen in a book.

| Thrawn is the best! He's a bad guy, but he's a bad guy with values (oxymoron?) and respect for his enemy. I love the way he dosen't underestimate his enemy, except for the end obviously But I'll back you up on that Thrawn vote

| Yes, Admiral Thrawn certainly has that deliberate, calculating, I'm-going-to-win-and-there's-nothing-you-can-do aura that sends shivers down your back! Admiral Thrawn is downright <ahem> bad to the bone!
Now, the Kurgen gets points just for being one mean, bad dude! He's a good one, too. "Hi. I'm Candy." "Of course you are." Oh, yeah! Sheer badness!
But my vote goes to Darth Vader. Get away from the "I'm your father" bit and he was a villain in his own right! And I LOVED the fight scene in "Empire" between Darth V and Luke. GREAT choreography and very exciting!

| Darth was/is a good bad guy. I thought the whole dad thing added to his villainy.
Thrawn was another good bad guy. I have to say I don't normally go for spinoff book series (all those Star Trek books uuughh) but they were quite good. Oh I wouldb't say he had morals - quite the opposite in fact. He would have done whatever was neccessary to win. Its just that the target audience was a bit young. |

| It's the penguin in the Wallace and Gromit short "The Wrong Trousers". Those beady little eyes...just pure evil.
Or the 6-fingered man in "the Princess Bride" (especially in the book). |
