| Fencing Dreams I think this topic came up before, but I had a dream last night that I was late to a fencing tournament! I overslept my alarm. Registration was at 9:00 and I woke up at 9:20!!!! I was more afraid of the coach being disappointed at me than being late. Thank goodness it was only a dream!
What types of fencing related dreams have you had?

| WAY too many!
Let's see, my favorite was the one where I showed up at a "real" tourney with a bunch of BIG women & real swords in a fight to the death (at a rich nut's mansion). My coach was Obi Wan Kenobi, from Phantom Menace.

| There was this one where I show up for a tournament completely naked... or was it showing up for a tourney without having studied... oh wait... sorry, wrong set of psychological connotations. |

| I once had a dream where I had a serial killer in my house. You know, one of those who's all psychological and likes to torture you before he kills you. He had me tied up in my basement and I managed to get free and get away from him. I ran up stairs to get help because I knew my fencing instructor was up there and he would help me. I got up there and those two started fighting, with swords, of course. They went down the hallway and out of sight. I was worried and went down the hall to see what was going on and he had my instuctor tied up just like he had had me and he was gonna hurt him. So I got mad that he had dared to try to hurt one of my friends, I picked up a knife and I killed him. Stabbed him in the neck. No hesitation, no regret.
I know that may sound like a kinda psycho and scarey dream, but it actually gave me more courage. It was just after I had started fencing and I was in kinda a slump, I wasn't improving at all and only seemed to be doing worse when I tried. That dream was kinda my phsyches way of telling me that I could do this and I'm stronger than I think I am. That I can take care of myself and shouldn't let anyone intimdate me. After that I got out of my slump and started to improve again. That dream was just what I needed.

| One evening one of the other fencers was beating me to death with a particular action, for the life of me I couldn't figure out why she kept getting me on it - that night I dreamed I was back on the strip with her and she made the attack - and I parried five - instead of three, which I had been trying all night - lo and behold it worked!! The next time I fenced her I tried it and she couldn't hit me with that attack anymore - I could sure use more dreams like that!!

| most common are the nightmares
"oh no im late for the tournament!!"
"Im losing 14-0!"
Then I have weird ones about other fencers, like my coach is really mad at me and i dont know why, then I have to fence and he wont coach me.
Also, i have woken up and my arm is flailing around,"practicing my cuts"

| I think the wierdest experience I ever had was when I woke up my wife. I had a dream wherein I was fencing (who knows why. tourney? Life or death? *shrug*) and the next thing I know my wife is yelling at me and shaking me awake. It seems that my legs were kicking her while I was dreaming. Boy, was she mad!

| Okay, weird fencing dream.
I dreamed that my opponent hit me on the ankle so hard that it broke the bone. I woke up very suddenly to find that my ankle hurt so much I couldn't move it and it was swollen. It wasn't sprained, it really did feel broken. I remembered that someone had really hit me very hard on the ankle at practice the evening before.
Next day, my ankle seemed a bit better and would take some weight. I called the doctor but he was away and I went to see his substitue - an old, traditional kind of guy. I was careful just to show him my ankle because I didn't want to have to explain all those fencing bruises on my legs (we had been practicing leg and foot hits). He made tut-tutting noises and insinuated someone was beating me up (well, in a way, they were). I explained that fencing was a contact sport yada yada yada. The ankle was not broken, only badly bruised deep down. It healed up very fast.
It wasn't until I got home that I realized that I hadn't got the bruised ankle fencing. Indeed, I had "walked into a piece of furniture" - really, I had! I cracked my ankle in the dark on the foot of a big, old Victorian chair. But I couldn't exactly tell that to doctor! Almost as bad as knocking my eye on the doorknob! |

| Ok, I had this dream last night, I was in a hospital and I was still in my fencing whites...I had fluid on the brain my coach (who is a med student) walked in and said "You would do this while I was on my neurological rotation wouldnt you?" He then started getting made at me for all teh competitions I would miss. It was odd.

| Well thanks a lot M the D
I read your post the other night about fending off a serial killer with your weapon and then last night I had a dream about doing the same thing. As I was getting ready to hit him, someone grabbed the blade of my sabre and was trying to pull it out of my hand. I woke up because my husband was moving my hand trying to wake me up. My alarm clock was going off and I didn't hear it. |

| I have to say this is an AWESOME thread. Why? Guess where I get ideas for my stories from? My dreams! M the D...I've had a similar dream, but in it, the serial killer stabbed ME to death (yes, I felt it too). This was before fencing. Because of all my very strange dreams, my friends called the dream queen.
A friend & I are thinking of writing a book of women's dreams...fencer dreams would be an interesting addition!

| Hmmm, I haven't had any dreams of fencing, but I have had dreams about a serial killer trying to hunt me down. Yes, Michael Myers, from the Halloween movies, wants me, folks...LOL. He has a recurring role in my nightmares...coming after me wearing that William Shatner-spraypainted white mask. I always get away from him, but he's still out there.....<shuddering>. Oh, my...WHY did I have to mention this when I'm all alone in my house with 3 kids and 2 cats and?

Oh boy, do I EVER have a fear of my equipment not working! |

#18 | | Guest | I've had serial killer dreams too. Once, this lady was trying to attack me with a knife, and had me cornered in my room. And I thought, this is probably a dream. If I smack myself, I'll wake up and get away. So I smacked myself and woke up.
And once I was ice skating, and fighting this guy with an aluminum sword. Talk about foil. But it wasn't actually fencing.
And I had a dream that I was in a war, like, with a bunch of Greek soldier people with pikes. And I had no idea how to use my pike, so I was scared to death, but I thought, "What am I scared for.. if I die, I die."
When our line advanced, I sort of whacked people with my pike, then ran away when they called for us to retreat.
I haven't had actual fencing dreams, as far as I know.

| Dreams are fascinating. I've read that dreams can provide us with insight to our inner depths. The symbolism can be a wealth of information...that is if we can somehow figure out what it all means. Here's a symbolic dream that I had back in September, but hadn't figured out till now... in this dream I was walking through a salle, but it was dark. The salle had small rooms off the main room- there were fencers sleeping in beds in these rooms. I just walked quietly through the salle, peeking in the rooms with sleeping fencers. Interpretation: I was those sleeping fencers. I had the dream before I resumed fencing practice and I awakened myself to resume fencing.. sort of like Rip Van Winkle, except it was a 22 year sleep and I didn't grow a beard!
