#1 | | Guest | Training hard..... Hey got a question for all ya'll out there in fencing land. Do train hard or are you hardly training. Often the guy I am training under is weak. I pay top dollar and he's got all the awards and certficates. I just want to find a club were I can sweat. Well...let me know how your club is holding. From a country boy fencer...Saber all the way. | |

| For the most part I'd say I train hard. I'm at the club often enough (5 or 6 days for at least 2 hrs at a time) so I can afford too goof off sometimes - The coaches are pretty good about recognizing who is serious and who is not at the club and riding the serious ones if they start slacking too much. Just remember, there's plenty of stuff you can do on your own without your coach there all the time. Hook up with another fencer and drill yourselves to death, or work out the kinks in your footwork. Having an inattentive coach can be annoying, but it does teach you to think for yourself!!
Good luck!!!!

| I'm not in training at the moment but am getting back into it slowly. I stopped fencing for about a year and a half and am paying for it.
Generally, when I am training, it's 20 mins. of footwork, both right and left, then 10 mins. of strength training. Mask curls and strait arms are a good way to go. Then bout at least twice a week, and tape it if you can. |

| I get to the salle about 3 times a week. Usually I am dripping when done, but I also spend at least 45 minutes, also 3 times a week, at the gym on the weight machines and do at least 3 miles on the bike before I get to the salle. At the salle it's time for the footwork, lessons, drills and sparring. The coach varies the workouts with football, soccer, obstacle coarse, and relays. WE WORK HARD...
worth it though, I've dropped 40 pounds!

| I would train a lot harder, if I could. Unfortunately, I'm about half an hour away from where my club meets. They also meet only twice a week. However, the rest of the time I'm running track six days a week, so I still stay in pretty good shape for fencing.
