| New German Foil Point Just got in a few samples of the new foil point from FWF and it's interesting.
Looks like they took the good features of the Leon Paul points and incorporated them into their design.
The foil barrel sports a thicker barrel wall that both should keep the barrel from dinging and also protects the screws, which now are flush with the barrel instead of poking out.
I have a couple of pictures on the product page if you want a closer look: NextGen FWF Foil Point

| How are the inner workings of the tip? Is it one piece like the LP tip or are there different parts? |

| Are the screws and the springs the same, or do we need to stock another set of spares? |

| The rest of the point (tip, screws, spring) are identical to the standard FWF point. The difference is in the barrel.

| Very nice, about time they changed the whole screw-sticking-out thing. Also great to have the thicker walls... maybe it'll help when flicking.
Cant wait to get some and try them out.

Craig | Thank goodness.
Compatibility is the thing I most consider when buying tips. |

| They are the same.
Still - I like that the LP points use epee screws - makes working with them a bit easier.

| So it's a new german barrel then, correct?
Wires, screws, springs, tips are all the same? Basically I want to know if I could just buy the barrels in order to upgrade my tips...

Well done. | I used to think the same thing, but mainly because the bronze part where the screws go into has always been really crappy. However, a friend showed me ones he got in France which actually have steel parts. Those seemed pretty nice... durable and no screws sticking out of the barrel.

| umm Seems to me that FWF is really just offering what is already available..
A Sport 7 french tip LOL. The spot 7 points are all stainless and screws are flush with the barrel.
Why anyone else would use something different is beyond me.
If the new barrel/point is just as good as is already available..why not use the sport 7? Its cheaper. I think the full set including the wire is like 10 bucks or something. Call Triplette

| Craig....has the inside diameter at the base hanged at all? I'm worried that if it narrowed a touch I may not be able to get in the wires I buy from Gary Spruill. |

Looked it up, the inside is still 4.5, the only change is the OD.
Here is the really cool thing about this new barrel that has not been mentioned in this thread yet. The thickness of the wall to the barrel is thickened, which means that the screw will be in more metal and less of the head will be exposed, meaning: less dented up screws! Cool!

Gary Spruill | Actually, Craig mentioned this in the OP. Still good news though. |

FF | Sport 7 is better than other french style points. They still suffer from coming apart on the stem. They still need the screws aligned with the barrel to assemble. Mostly, they seem to have the same roughness and less overall reliability than the german. They don't have the smashed screw problem, which the new FWF barrel seems to be addressing. I mistakenly got a Sport 7 on a new STM maraging blade for one of my daughter's foils. All the others are FWF or Uhlmann. I am constantly fiddling with that weapon. "Unfortunately", the wire hasn't broken yet. When it does, I'll be putting a new german on it. I may have to try the new FWF barrel. I use VA2s on her weapons now.
I don't like experimenting on her weapons; she is doing okay these days on the national points lists, but I would like to try out the LP points. |
