    Westbrook on CNN 01-27-01

I just heard that Jane Fonda will spend an hour with Peter Westbrook this Saturday at 8pm on CNN. The show is something with "People" in the title, like "Interesting People" or some such. Check local listings.

Ok, I goofed. It's called, "People Count" and it's on at 10pm EST. Jane Fonda will spend a whole hour on Peter Westbrook and his salle.

    Doug:
I just saw the commercial while watching Headline News. I can't wait to see it, myself. It was a very solemn toned commercial. Hopefully, the show will garner interest for the sport.

A teammate of mine saw it when he was in Germany recently. He said it was excellent.

Can't wait to see it this weekend!

Just saw the CNN show and I was impressed. Yes, I woudl've liked to have
seen more actual fencing, but that wasn't the focus of the show. Akhi's
Olympic commercial aside, we saw more about the sport on a major broadcast
network in one hour than in...EVER! And seeing so few white faces certainly
blasted the image of fencing as a lilly white, prviliged male sport all to
    hell.

My first reaction to the young girl's loss was "well, she's got to learn to
deal with it; they're tryign to beat her also." She had a serious case of
the "Karate Kid Syndrome" goin' on.

However, she clearly learned something from it...she's currently 7th on the
Sr. Women's epee points, 3rd in Junior and 1st in Cadet. The teammate she
beat inthe round of 4 is 6th on the Cadet Women's foi.

Now if we can all just translate this into more people into the sport...

    Great show!
Yes, I wish there was more real fencing... or explanation about the sport. But like Purple fencer says, that's not the focus of the show.
When they did show the fencing scenes, I was getting worked-up. I wanted to fence so badly upon hearing the yells and the sound of metal on metal.

Aaaagh! Wasn't it just my luck that our family decided to go somewhere without cable for the weekend? I *think* I figured out the vcr enough to get it to tape the show while I was gone. Hopefully it worked!

    ...
on Friday 1/26/01. So I missed it.
