| fencish. a language for all. Okay, Guys & Gals. (that still sounds tacky.)
After much thinking, I have come to the conclusion that we, as an online fencing community, should have a name for our non-fencing counterparts.
Something that we all know what it means when the word is said. ("Non-fencers" is a bit long to type, and I fancied starting a thread anyway).
Any suggestions?? I'm thinking something like "Muppets". You get the idea. We should, actually start a whole code. even a new language.. Perhaps take over the world!!!
hahahahahahahahah haha hahahahahha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah hahaha.
sorry.

| We could borrow a bit of SCA jargon and call them mundanes.
If it wasn't 1am, I could have spelled this post right the first time.

| Isn't "septics" already taken for another group of people, a group that includes both fencers and those as-yet-unnamed others?? |

| This conversation reminds me of a commercial...
"Oh, the possibilities...."
But yes, that would be VERY fun and interesting to make a fencing language, although you have to admit, it sorta is. I mean, if you have a new person in the club...and all of a sudden you shout to them, "Do a double detached to four" their usual immediate reply is, "What the heck?". So, in that respect it IS almost another language...it makes it even more fun if you make up words...and pretend to tell them "new moves" that acutally aren't anything at all (hehe). Anyway...a good term for new people...fresh meat...haha, okay, enough humor for me today.

| Well as for a fencing language, I sorta already have one, well at least our club does, we all sort of complete each others sentence and can say 3 unrelated words and we know what you mean. As for non fencers - how about we call them nofens for not fencers?

| In the historical re-enacting world, spectators are referred to as "fudgies", relating to their eating of concession food while watching the battles. Unfortunately, fencing doesn't seem to have many spectators.

| "OWers"...<snicker>...yeah, that's about right.
We just call them "nons" around here. We're the fencers, they're the "nons".

| Ok gang,
here's my two cents . . . . we don't need a name for people who don't fence. While we all find it exciting and love our sport in all its forms- no one must agree with us. Using some sort of derrogative name for those non fencers that we know, especially those seriously involved in another sport or hobbie will only premote the elitist attitude that we are known for.
One of the things I like about my club and division is that there are people who are in every level of socio-economic strata. We are all athletes on the strip- trying to win, no matter if we are a lawer or a starving music teacher, or a corrosion chemist, or surgon.
Diversity in life is what makes it special (or at least interesting). Don't disdane people for not being interested; if you respect there interests, and present your intersts with enthusiam- perhaps there will be mutual respect, and good relationships will grow.
B.
Ps. sorry if the spelling sucks, its a bit early for us music teachers!
Pps. sorry about the soapbox preaching!! |
