| Describe an unusual item in your fencing bag OK Fencers,
I know everyone has something in their bag that's interesting or unusual. For instance, I have a beany baby- a white bird with pink feathers on the top of his head. I also have a really old autograph type of book that I jot down notes from fencing lessons.
Your turn......

| Until I cleaned my bag out, I had a broken mini visconti grip, a Sailor Moon figurine, & my Buffy the Vampire Slayer bookmark (It says "I'm not just some crazy person...I'm the Slayer"). Now I have my little stuffed tiger, whose fur is a very soft "shammie" material.

| I have a bunch of now crunched up granola bars in the outside pocket for emergency rations, but it would have to be a pretty big emergency. I also carry a washclothe, not to use as intended but to pad a portion of my chest place where it rubs against a rib. I got some strange looks for that when I started using it. :-)

| Ew, ew! I have a bell the the first sword I ever had...epeetaph was it's name (yes, I named it). I call it the "Sacred Fencing Relic" and I am it's keeper...muah ha ha ha. But other than that...normal fencing things...but this had no purpose...although it has made a rather interesting candy dish...anyway....

| Two things that used to be in bag... but since discarded:
1) A broken Candy Cane my coach dropped in during fencing practice. She told me that she put it there, but I forgot about it.
2) A small kids toy... I think it was a small bike for an action figure or something. I have no idea how it got there. |

| I used to have a one hundred year old screwdriver to tighten my pistol grips (love those Santelli nuts), but left it on a table next to a strip I was refereeing at in November, and someone put in with the Division stuff. I haven't gotten it back yet, but when I do, it'll be a happy day! |

| I used to keep a Happy Meal Mulan figure in my bag for good luck (MY HEROINE!!) but I took it out and it never got back in. I do still carry a picture of me before I started fencing - I've lost 30 pounds and a LOT of hair since then, so it's pretty funny to see, I consider it my "before" picture - I should probably get an "after" one too, but I haven't gotten around to it.

| I carry my pool cue in my bag sometimes for overnight stays. Can be much more profitable than fencing gear most of the time. I've also carried an Ostrich beanie baby, a gift from my gf.

| A 40 calibur baby Glock.
I train in a seedy part of town late at night. What can I say? a foil is great, if your assailant is carrying one also.
Disclaimer ... it never goes into a tourney.

| i guess the absolute weirdest thing i keep in my equip. bag would have to be about 4 pairs of heel cups!!! i know i know.. we have but ONE set of feet, but Yes, i take all 4 pairs to EVERY tourney... not to mention my textbooks and a collection of pens pencils markers and highlighters (yes, im a student and a fencer)--(yes they are useless for fencing) :0)~

| Robbie,
While agree with you on your sidearm choice(expecially the caliber),i dont think it is safe to have your weapon stored in your bag, just think about..if a situation may occour you'll never be quick enought to draw your weapon from its place..
My personal choice in self defense is a walking cane with a live blade inside(in my country you can legally carry it if you got a gun self defense licence).
Its fast, light no need for rounds and if you are a fencer its also deadly and surprising. |

| While i don't advocate toting a gun in your bag( a holster would serve you better) I have to disagree with the premise a sword cane makes a good personal safety weapon. It will do no good to try to parry 9mm rounds. Maybe alot of robberies are done at knifepoint in your country, but that is not true in the US. So I'll stick with carrying my .380. It packs a wallop for it's size and is easy to carry
